Foreign Policy Dominates The Week

President Trump’s foreign policy was center stage this week as Secretary of State Rex Tillerson made his first trip to Moscow and the president was coming off a summit with President Xi Jinping of China.

RealClearPolitics’ Alexis Simendinger reports that “the dire descriptions of fault lines between Washington and Moscow stood in stark contrast with the praise and appreciation Trump heaped on President Xi Jinping of China, with whom he said he forged ‘very strong bonding’ during discussions last week in Florida.”

Vice President Mike Pence is set to arrive in Seoul on Sunday to discuss U.S. options for a response to any North Korea provocation. Trump is spending the weekend at Mar-a-Lago.

Members of Congress, meanwhile, are back in their districts until April 24 but a special election next week in Georgia is being closely watched by both sides of the aisle.

RealClearPolitics’ Caitlin Huey-Burns reports the contest to replace Tom Price in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District is being seen as the first big test of the Trump opposition: “The amount of money and resources poured into this race, and the competitiveness of the district, could also prove to be a recruiting tool for the Democratic Party, which is looking for candidates to run for Congress in 2018.”
