Big Holiday, Small Table

If your Thanksgiving will look different this year, chances are it’s because it will be smaller. I can’t mitigate the disappointment that may come with that—but I can help you with your menu.

A few years ago Epi published this complete recipe for Thanksgiving for One. Some people think it’s depressing, but I think it’s hopeful—the person who celebrates Thanksgiving despite being alone is a person I want to hang out with. This year, maybe that person is you. But even if there are a couple more people around your table, this recipe can be your guide—it scales up beautifully to feed two or three.

If you’re having a slightly larger affair, here’s a recipe for turkey breast that feeds four. Pair it with a skillet of wild mushroom stuffing and/or this cheesy spoon bread, and maybe a couple of mini-pies for dessert. Or serve the dessert our official Menu for a Small Thanksgiving suggests: a single full-size pie that features the flavors of two classics. Whatever recipes you land on, make sure they make a little extra—even a small Thanksgiving should have some leftovers.
