Recruiting fireworks for the Tigers

The X (formerly Twitter) account of new LSU defensive coordinator Blake Baker echoed the same message a total of three times Thursday and Friday:

"Here Come The Tigers!"

Apparently this will be Baker's code for letting the world know that LSU has just gotten a new football commitment. Always welcomed news for Tiger fans, but Friday they got something most probably didn't dream of: a haul of three defensive line commitments in a span of less than two days

What's more, one of the commitments, Brandon Brown, told the recruiting service On3.com that he pledged to the Tigers after previously being a commitment to Texas because LSU had signed the Longhorns' former defensive line coach, Bo Davis. The other two commitments were Zion Williams (like Brown a four-star prospect) and edge rusher Damien Shanklin.

Obviously the Tigers still have depth and talent issues along the defensive line for the 2024 season that these commitments, assuming they become signees, can't possibly address. But it is at least a sign that Brian Kelly and his staff are trying to address the issue as quickly as the possibly can.

In basketball, former LSU women's player Hailey Van Lith is going to the Paris Olympics later this month as part of the USA 3x3 basketball team. Current Tiger Mikaylah Williams is meanwhile headed to Mexico City to play for the U.S. in a U23 international 3x3 basketball tournament. Who knows? Maybe Williams will get a shot at being on the Olympic team in 2028 or beyond.

Speaking of the Olympics, we have our Olympic tracker updated with the latest list of Louisiana/LSU athletes headed to Paris. Speaking of tracker, our LSU baseball transfer tracker is also updating as players warrant.

That's all for today, folks. Enjoy your sports weekend, and we'll catch you up next week.
