We were treated to another fantastic duel for victory as 2022-style Formula 1 rode a rollercoaster of a weekend in Saudi Arabia.

I wasn’t sure we were going to have a Grand Prix at all after last Friday’s missile attack at the nearby Aramco oil facility, which seemed to multiply the awkwardness of having a race in Jeddah in the first place. Mick Schumacher’s huge crash in qualifying only added to that unease, so it was a relief that Sunday went without major drama – apart from what unfolded in a fine battle for the win.

Kudos to Max Verstappen for working out Charles Leclerc’s tactics at the DRS line as the Ferrari became prone to attack as its tyre grip faded. It also highlighted the need for DRS, a necessary evil that allows overtaking to happen, but the FIA should certainly trial shortening some of these zones now.
