Fairy tale weekend as Orlowski does double at EOS Poland Posted: 20 Nov 2016 09:34 AM PST Round 2 of the Euro Offroad Series would turn out to be a fairy tale weekend for Michal Orlowski, as the young Polish RC star did the double in his home city of Warsaw. With Poland making a return to the championship after being left off last season’s calendar, the Schumacher driver took a not so unexpected 2WD win on Saturday in front of a huge crowd at Warsaw Moto Show, the host of the race. After a troubled start to 4WD qualifying on Friday and Xray looking dominant, the 15-year-old himself was at best targeting just making the main. However topping the last 4WD qualifier this morning to line up second on the grid, there was a new glimmer that a podium could be possible. Capitalising on a mistake by Top Qualifier Coelho to win A1, that prospect of a double grew strong although a lap one error in A2 was to be a set back. Not phased the Pole said ahead of the third & deciding leg he would be ‘going to go for it’ and that’s just what he did helped by yet another mistake from Coelho. Once in front Orlowski made the race his own to pull off his first 4WD win and become only the 4th driver to do the double in the six seasons of the EOS. Behind the home hero, Coelho would secure second which along with his TQ bonus point see him still leading the championship while Bayer made his first podium appearance for over a season. Fairy tale weekend as Orlowski does double at EOS Poland Posted: 20 Nov 2016 09:26 AM PST Round 2 of the Euro Offroad Series would turn out to be a fairy tale weekend for Michal Orlowski, as the young Polish RC star did the double in his home city of Warsaw. ‘I absolutely didn’t expect the 4WD win. Xray are very strong in this class but somehow we did it’, was Orlowski’s reaction to his win. He continued, ‘It was a great atmosphere here and I was spurred on by the support of the crowd’. On his winning A3 performance he said, ‘Like before I was trying to keep with Bruno so if he made a mistake I would be there to capitalise and he did. After he made another mistake I concentrated more to make sure I didn’t make a mistake myself and could keep the race lead’. Schumacher’s first 4WD win of the EOS, the British manufacturer making big improvements since the season opener Orlowski said, ‘we will continue to work hard for sure on our 4WD but for sure the next race will be difficult as it’s their track. For Xray the Hudy Arena will feel like here did for me’. Acknowledging his father and engineer Tristram Neal’s hard work in getting the CAT K2 to where it is, he added, ‘I have to thank all my sponsors for making all of this possible in particular Schumacher and LRP’. ‘One more mistake’ was how Coelho put simply the chance of making it five EOS wins in a row. He continued, ‘I touched the board at the chicane and after this it was impossible’. Complimenting Orlowski on his win, the World Champion said, ‘Michal had impressive pace this weekend and to win at home is a great result’. On his own result he said, ‘the result is still positive and the TQ was very important, ok I was not able to make 1st again but there is 3 more race to go so it’s no problem’. A ‘super happy’ Bayer said, ‘It was great again to be fighting for the podium after more than a year. All weekend was really good and only 1 time (Q3) I didn’t finish in the Top 3′. One the EOS’ exclusive list of double winners, the Czech driver added ‘it’s a shame there is such a big break to the next round’ joking ‘I’m on form now’. In with a chance of the overall win going into A3, needing to win it in a new fastest time, he said ‘I planned to let Bruno go to Orlowski in the hope the would delay each other and maybe I could be there but he (Bruno) came too fast and we crashed too much’. With essentially his office the host of Round 3 in February, the Xray offroad team manager said, ‘Now that I live in Trencin it will be cool having the EOS at the Hudy Arena as it will be the first time I’ve had a home race’. Missing out a podium double at an EOS for the first time since Season #4, this being the first time Yokomo’s YZ4 has missed the podium since its debut, Martin said, ‘I’m gutted to miss the podium but the three guys were genuinely faster’. Hoping for ‘a sneaky podium’ with a good result in A3 to go with his P3 in A2, the fourth place qualifier said, ‘I got it wrong coming out of the corner before the triple which caused me to case it and then I was last. I couldn’t have matched the Top 3 pace anyway’. Summing up the team’s 4WD performance on what was a much tighter track than normal for the EOS, the 2WD Champion said ‘for the tighter tracks we need to improve the car. On the more open tracks it’s good but we have a bit of work to do for this type of layout’. Behind Martin Hupo Hönigl would claim 5th overall with his Xray team-mate Kája Novotný completing the Top 6 ahead of former multiple champion Joern Neumann. View complete event results here. Posted: 20 Nov 2016 06:54 AM PST While it took three laps before he crashed out of the lead of A1 of the Euro Offroad Series, in the second encounter Bruno Coelho would get it wrong on the opening lap, only this time the Top Qualifier was able to get back to the front and deliver a win. Getting it wrong on the first run through the quad allowing Martin Bayer and Lee Martin to pass, A1 winner Michal Orlowski crashing out of second earlier in the lap, Coelho would take 8-laps to first get by Martin and then Bayer with a great pass around the outside at the quad. Again the only driver to run a 17-second lap time, once the winner of the season opener got back to the front he would stay there managing an extra lap over team-mate Bayer who saw off a strong challenge from Martin. Having recovered to 3rd and setting about a move on Bayer, a mistake with 3-laps to go would drop Orlowski back to 4th. Continue reading this report here or view our full event coverage here. ‘You try to make it perfect and you make it worse’ was how Coelho summed up coming up short at the quad on the opening lap. The World Champion continued, ‘After this I pushed hard as I had nothing to lose and thankfully I was able to win’. Surviving contact with Bayer on the wall as they fought for the lead, he said, ‘he got on two wheels and I crashed him but luckily we both landed on our wheels’. With Orlowski needing a win in A3 or Bayer needing a win in a new fastest time to prevent Coelho his fifth consecutive EOS win, he concluded, ‘I will try to do what all the time I am telling myself, to not crash’. ‘It was a run without mistakes, I was running for the points to secure a podium finish’, was Bayer’s view of A2. The Czech driver who is a double 4WD EOS race winner continued, ‘Lee in the end was faster but I just kept calm and was able to bring in second’. On his moment on the wall, the former European Champion said, ‘I got up on 2-wheel and tried to go right to save it but Bruno was there. Luckily nothing happened and we both continued’. Having crashed out of contention on the opening lap of A1, on the second encounter Martin said, ‘I just cruised around to be honest. I was up to second but Bruno got by, he could turn a lot tighter in the hairpins’. The Yokomo driver continued, ‘I tried hard but nothing crazy. I don’t have the pace of Bruno’. Summing up the result the British ace said, ‘3rd is not too bad and if I stick in a sneak 1 or 2 in the last one we might be able to get a sneaky podium’. Orlowski put his race error down to taking a nap before the race. ‘I had a short nap before the race but woke up too late and I wasn’t sharp for the race’. After his crash he said he got ‘stuck behind slower drivers’ and because of this it took too long to get back to the front. For the deciding final he said, ‘I’m going to go for it (the win)’. Behind the Schumacher driver Jörn Neumann would take Serpent to 5th ahead of Marc Rheinard. View complete event results here. View the event image gallery here. FacebookTwitterGoogle+Pin It |

Orlowski crashes least to win A1 Posted: 20 Nov 2016 05:10 AM PST Michal Orlowski has won the opening 4WD A-Main at the Euro Offroad Series in Poland. Starting from second the grid, the Schumacher driver would go to the front when Top Qualifier Bruno Coelho crashed coming off the wall on the second lap, a mistake he would repeat again two laps later. With Martin Bayer up to second, the Czech driver looked like he was about to challenge Orlowski for the lead but he too made a mistake. Setting the fastest lap of the race, the only driver to break in 17-seconds, Coelho would set about closing down Orlowski but with four laps to go an error at the quad ended the reigning champion’s chances leaving yesterday’s 2WD winner to win with a lap in hand. With fourth place starter Lee Martin crashing out of contention on the opening lap, Orlowski wasn’t immune from errors but such was his early advantage and good marshalling by team-mate Peter Pinisch he could survive a mistake on lap six. Coelho would go on to finish 2nd with Bayer third, followed by Hupo Honigl. Continue reading this report here or view our full event coverage here. FacebookTwitterGoogle+Pin It |
Orlowski crashes least to win A1 Posted: 20 Nov 2016 05:04 AM PST Michal Orlowski has won the opening 4WD A-Main at the Euro Offroad Series in Poland. ‘I think I used up all my bad luck on Friday’ was Orlowski’s reaction after taking A1. In an admission that he got lucky that both Coelho and Bayer made mistakes he continued, ‘it would have been difficult to defend if they they did not make mistakes’. ‘Very surprised by Bruno’s mistake at the beginning’, the former European Champion said ‘I wasn’t driving good laps myself after that but got more concentrated at the end’. On his own mistakes he said, ‘I think everything went my way, I got lucky with Peter (Pinisch) being where he was’ – marshalling the jump after the straight. Coelho understandably had little to say on his race, ‘I just touched the curb at the wall and it caused my mistake and then when I got passed Bayer I had another mistake at the triple. The car was OK, I just need to cut out the mistakes for the next one’. Surprised himself at how competitive he is this weekend, Bayer’s reaction after the opening encounter was, ‘it was good, the race was super tight’. He continued, ‘unfortunately I had some small mistakes but the speed is there and I will try to keep away from the boards in the next one’. FacebookTwitterGoogle+Pin It |
Coelho Top Qualifier in Warsaw as Orlowski takes Q4 Posted: 20 Nov 2016 03:42 AM PST 4WD Championship leader Bruno Coelho is the Top Qualifier for Round 2 of the Euro Offroad Series in Warsaw. Going into the fourth & final round of qualifying at the Warsaw Moto Show hosted event only team-mate Martin Bayer had a chance of denying the Xray driver the overall TQ. While Bayer would set the early pace after a mistake from Coelho at the 1-minute mark, it was Michal Orlowski who would go fastest pipping the Czech driver by 6/10ths of a second. Recovering from a difficult first two qualifiers on Friday, Orowski’s Q4 TQ would allow him to split the two Xrays on the starting grid as he secured second ahead of Bayer. For Nurburgring Top Qualifier Lee Martin, an early mistake put end to any chance of improvement and the Yokomo driver will start 4th ahead of on form Kája Novotný who secures his best ever EOS qualifying position with 5th. Coelho Top Qualifier in Warsaw as Orlowski takes Q4 Posted: 20 Nov 2016 03:39 AM PST 4WD Championship leader Bruno Coelho is the Top Qualifier for Round 2 of the Euro Offroad Series in Warsaw. Commenting on what is his 4th EOS TQ in 4WD, Coelho said, ‘For sure it’s a good position to start but everyone is super fast so it’s not going to be an easy final’. Fourth fastest in the final qualifier, the World Champion said, ‘I think the track felt different and had less traction and that led to some mistakes’. Unlike many of his rivals who saved tyres from one of their two sets of the handout Schumacher Minipins for the triple finals, Coelho said he just has the extra set allowed to A-Main drivers but didn’t see that as an issue. Wrapping up the win at the opening round in Germany in A2 allowing him to sit off the third main, he said, ‘I didn’t save tyres. My approach for the finals will be not to make any mistakes’. As if they fixed his steering issues Orlowski replied, ‘we fixed the steering but now I had so much I had to be careful how I controlled the car’. Suffering a crash of his own doing but then hitting another car that had crashed in front of him the Pole said, ‘after that I had to push as much as I could and it worked’. After his troubles on Friday, he continued, ‘for sure P2 on the grid is better than Friday when I was just hoping we could make the main.’ Looking to the final, yesterday’s 2WD Top Qualifier and race winner said, ‘the aim is another podium. I think Bruno is faster than anyone but I will try to be there if he makes a mistake’. In terms of his LRP powered CAT K2 he said ‘we will obviously make changes to reduce the steering’. Enjoying a much more competitive form this weekend than the season opener, Bayer said ‘I’m very confident with the car’. He continued, ‘the speed is there and we can fight for (the) podium’. On his final qualifying performance, the Xray offroad team-manager said, ‘I had a small mistake but it was enough as it was a tiny difference between me and Michal. For the final the aim is to not to make any mistakes and not touch the boards at the first corner’. On Q4 Martin said, ‘We tried different stuff but I crashed early on so I resided to testing and pulled over a few times to let other drivers by’. Describing the changes to his YZ4 as ‘an improvement’, Yokomo former 4WD champion continued, ‘but we need to change other stuff to match the improvements and hopefully we are good for leg 1′. Asked about the track layout, it one of the EOS’ tighter tracks, he simply replied, ‘It’s going to be pretty fast’. Completing the top half of the grid ahead of team-mate Hupo Hönigl, Novotný was very happy about his pace, the 20-year-old Czech driver having been quick from the first practice. The reigning Czech National Champion said, ‘my car has been awesome and I’m really enjoying the track which is much harder than the previous round’. Getting a P2 behind Bayer in Q2, he said for the last qualifier the just refreshed the diffs in preparation for the finals as well as running used tyres to save a set for the finals. Asked his aims for the race he replied, ‘the Top 3 are super fast but we’ll see’. View complete event results here. View the event image gallery here. FacebookTwitterGoogle+Pin It |
Coelho fastest from Orlowski in Q3 Posted: 20 Nov 2016 02:08 AM PST With 4WD qualifying resuming after yesterday’s 2WD action at Round 2 of the Euro Offroad Series in Poland, it was Bruno Coelho who set the pace in Q3. Having topped the opening qualifier on Friday, the reigning champion was fastest from 2WD race winner Michal Orlowski. Over 4-seconds off the TQ pace, Lee Martin would complete the Top 3 just ahead of Martin Bayer who took the TQ in the second qualifier on Friday. Having suffered spur gear failures in the first two rounds, Malin Karlsen would finally go the full 5-minutes to post an impressive P5. Coelho fastest from Orlowski in Q3 Posted: 20 Nov 2016 02:05 AM PST With 4WD qualifying resuming after yesterday’s 2WD action at Round 2 of the Euro Offroad Series in Poland, it was Bruno Coelho who set the pace in Q3. Winner of the season opener in Germany, Coelho summed up the switch back to 4WD as ‘very good’. He added ‘it took a 4 or 5 laps to get used to double the steering and double the speed but once the heat started I was able to drive without any mistake. The car is working very good’. Looking on target to claim the TQ, Bayer needing to TQ Q4 with a faster time, the World Champion said, ‘I might try something new on the car for the last one to try to make it even faster’. Commenting on his badly needed P2, his opening qualifier ending in retirement, Orlowski said, ‘I had a steering problem being loose but adapted my driving to the car as I needed this run to make the main’. Explaining the issue, Schumacher designer Tristram Neal said, ‘there is too much flex in the front deck but we will stiffen it up for the next one’. With the P2 locking him into the A-Main for his home event, the 15-year-old said, ‘hopefully I can improve on my starting position in the last one’, the Warsaw driver currently sitting 7th in the quali ranking. ‘Two other guys were a little faster’ was Martin’s reaction after the penultimate qualifier. Runner-up in 2WD last night, he continued, ‘I felt different from 2WD obviously and I couldn’t really go much faster’. His third P3 run, the Yokomo driver said, ‘We’ll make a set-up change and see what we find’. For team-mate Marc Rheinard Q3 would end in retirement as he lost a screw from the front arm of his YZ4. Bayer was pleased with his P4 describing it as a ‘good run’ with just ‘small bobbles from touching the boards’. Running his XB4 unchanged from Friday, the former EOS race said he opted to run used tyres. Looking to save new sets for the finals, the Czech driver added, ‘new tyres are faster for me’. Having been on a Top 5 pace in the opening two qualifiers, Karlsen was relieved to finish Q3. After stripping three spur gears in a row, final practice, Q1 and Q2, the problem was found to be his Xray having too much flex. Stiffening up the car, the gear would hold and while the 11-year-old felt the car was better with more flex she said it was still good to drive, a fact highlighted by his P5 time. With two of the four qualifiers counting, the Norwegian said she ‘need(s) to put together another run to make the A-Main’ something she achieved at the last season’s finale. Lee wins in Xiamen as Kurzbuch secures pole Posted: 19 Nov 2016 08:22 PM PST Saturday at the Guan Kou Sunpadow Grand Prix in Xiamen, China and the remaining two rounds of qualifying for all classes was reduced to just one with the weather forecast predicting rain. This decision made in the morning confirmed the top qualifying spot for both Simon Kurzbuch and Nicholas Lee in the 1/8th and Modified touring classes having both took all 3 rounds on Friday. It was also decided to run two of the 3 touring car A-mains on Saturday, but in the end the forecast was, as it most of the time is, wrong and it turned out to be a warm sunny day. With the top spot on the grid confirmed, World Champion Simon Kurzbuch used the final qualifier to test things for the final including fitting a new engine and clutch with a view to the 45 minutes A-main, the Swiss driver the only direct qualifier for tomorrows main final. Pulling up early so as not to affect the other driver’s qualifying runs, he was content with the changes made to his Shepherd Velox V8. Also securing his place on the top of the grid for the semi finals due to the reduction in rounds of qualifying Takaaki Shimo also used round 4 to fit a new engine and clutch in to his Mugen MRX-6 and set it for the main final however he was to run out of fuel on the last lap, the setting on this new engine still needing for fine tuning. This left Silvio Hachler to take up the pace in the final round of qualifying with his Novarossi powered ARC. Topping the timesheets, it was enough to give the Swiss driver the 2nd overall qualifying spot to lead the odd Semi Final, the round win meaning he was equal on points with Shimo but took the tie break with the Japanese driver. In the final Modified Touring qualifier Nicholas Lee would again come out on top for a perfect 4 from 4 to confirm his position as the man to beat at this event. Andy Moore would put in his best run in the final qualifier to beat his fellow Infinity TC World Champion team mate Jilles Groskamp with Shanghai driver Motor King taking fourth for the round. With all 4 rounds completed, it would Groskamp starting on 2nd spot behind Singaporean Lee, with Motor King set to start 3rd with his Yokomo. On to Modified Touring A-main Leg 1 and it would see Lee continue his dominant form as he took a clear win from Groskamp in 2nd, while World Championship podium finisher Viktor Wilck would work his way through to 3rd from 6th on the grid. But even at this stage with Lee topping the timesheets in every session at this event, the battle was always going to be for 2nd. The 2nd A-main and Nicholas Lee would cruise to the win once again to take the overall title along with 3000 US dollars prize money from event organiser 3-Circles. Behind him Groskamp would be passed by Motor King in the middle of the race as the Dutch man’s car seemed to struggle as the race progressed meaning the runner up is to be decided in the 3rd and final main on Sunday morning between these two drivers. Orlowski brings home the win at EOS Poland Posted: 19 Nov 2016 12:06 PM PST Michal Orlowski delivered a convincing victory today in his home city of Warsaw today winning Round 2 of the Euro Offroad Series on the championship’s return to Poland. With every sports person wanting to win in front of a home crowd, Orlowski claimed only his second ever EOS race win with conviction putting in an dominant 2WD performance in A2, something he would do again in A3 as a tactical championship move. Having missed out on victory last season en route to becoming Vice-Champion for the second season running, today’s TQ and win puts the 15-year-old top of the championship table with the EOS next moving to the Hudy Arena – venue of his first EOS win. Behind the Schumacher ace, reigning champion Lee Martin would claim second overall to move him into second in the standings. Travelling to Poland as the early points leader it wasn’t to be a good race for Marc Rheinard, the Yokomo driver finishing a disappointing 9th. For Neil Cragg Poland would be somewhat of a break through for the Team Associated driver as he claimed his first podium finish, the European Champion proving much more competitive than he was at the season opener when he was only 6th.
