Keven Hebert doubles at US Indoor Championship Posted: 01 Dec 2016 11:29 AM PST The 37th running of the US Indoor Championship was held at the Embassy Suite/Hilton in Independence, Ohio. The race has slowly grown over the last few years to reach a peak of 413 entries this year, making it one of the largest indoor races in the country. This time the format was special as the organizers left the track open all night so you could get in a lot of track time. Still, most of the testing took place on Friday during the seeding rounds and controlled practice. In true US Indoor Champs fashion, qualifying went on Friday from 7pm to 2am and Saturday from 7am to 3am, with main events on Sunday finishing at 3:30pm for those racers wanting to get on the road home. Once again Keven Hebert proved to be the man to beat. Taking the top qualifying honors in both Modified Touring and 1/12th scale, Hebert was in the best position possible for Sunday’s main events. In 1/12th, Hebert was able to win the main event by over a lap and in the Touring Car main event he was again able to take the win, even after an altercation with backmarkers close to the end of the race. TLR 22 3.0 Dirt laydown transmission conversion kit Posted: 01 Dec 2016 11:17 AM PST Team Losi Racing have introduced the Dirt laydown transmission conversion kit for the TLR 22 3.0 2WD buggy. The chassis and gearbox conversion moves the motor forward which greatly improves corner speed and consistency on higher grip tracks. The updated weight bias is around 39 percent front and 61 percent rear, giving the car more corner speed and stability. Optimised for clay and dirt surfaces and ride heights between 22mm to 24mm, the laydown conversion kit includes the Dirt laydown transmission and utilises the standard rear hubs. The parts were used by the TLR race team during this season, culminating in Dakotah Phend capturing the 2016 ROAR National Championship in 2WD Buggy. Designed as a complete conversion kit, no additional parts or modifications are needed to convert an existing 22 3.0. Features: Source: TLR [tlracing.com] FacebookTwitterGoogle+Pin It |
Washtenaw RC Raceway Points Race Series Rd2 – Report Posted: 01 Dec 2016 08:56 AM PST The second round of the Washtenaw RC Raceway Points Race Series was held at the Washtenaw County Fairgrounds between Ann Arbor and Saline, Michigan. Conditions were great for a perfect day of racing on the indoor 1/10th scale off road track. The atmosphere was electric and racing was fantastic. This season the WRCR track has a number of detailed sections such as the option lane, an inside line heading to a tight S-Turn with four wood strips with dirt smoothing them. This round most of the classes were using the option lane as it became faster after track updates from round 1. The 4WD Buggy class is most impacted by the bumps but those willing to risk the trip through this lane may gain time on their competition. Conner Stanley was one of those drivers who took the advantage and was able to qualify into the top spot. Ben Belote was the next fastest driver starting in the second position only a few seconds ahead of Tom Erickson.
A large turnout in Stock 17.5 2WD Buggy stacked with top drivers from the area in combination with track conditions that were changing each round made things was challenging. Kenny Ferris edged out Ben Belote for the TQ position after three rounds. Conner Stanley settled for third with Dan Dresselhouse behind him. With large turn out the field was divided into two mains. The A-main was starting very smooth through the first turn but luck was not there for Ben Belote crossing the finish line in fifth on the first lap. Ahead of him was Dan in second, Chris Peterson in third after starting from sixth, and Conner in fourth. Kenny’s car looked perfect on the track allowing him to begin early building a lead. Conner, Dan, and Chris were nose-to-tail through the opening laps. By mid race Chris settled into the second position. Conner and Dan then started to feel the pressure from Ben for the third position. Ben was able to win the battle and take over the third spot. This set the podium at the finish. Kenny winning wire-to-wire, Chris holding on for second place only six seconds ahead of Ben in third place. Conner edged out Dan for fourth and Forrest charged into fifth place just ahead of Dan. During Qualifying, Dan Dresselhouse drove to another TQ in Stock Truck. Conner Stanley pressed hard but was not able to best Dan’s runs settling for second starting position in the A-main ahead of C.J. Boka and Andy Dresselhouse. The tone sounded to signify the start and the pack flowed through the option lane in starting order. Dan, fresh from the 4WD Buggy win, was leading the way on the opening laps with Conner close behind. One mistake and Conner was poised to take the lead. On lap 3 Conner passed Dan for the lead as Dan drifted too wide. Behind the two leaders CJ and Andy were in a battle of their own for third position. After a few more laps CJ and Andy caught Dan swapping positions for a few laps. Lap times among the top 4 drivers decreased as no one was ready to settle as they lapped the rest of the field. As the tone sounded Andy was caught at the line finishing in fourth Place. The top three had one last lap to solidify the podium positions. All Conner had to do is complete a clean final lap which is what he did. Conner finished in 1st Place, Dan in second Place, and CJ in third Place. Conner Stanley was on fire in 4WD Short Course, clinching the Top Qualifier position in the first two rounds. His truck was strong on the low traction track surface running faster laps than the first round. Matt Lemorie did what he could to stay ahead of the rest of the group of 10 trucks to secure the second starting spot. Andy Dresselhouse was able to capture the third starting position. The 7 minute A-main started fast and furious and the top three drivers flying through the first lap. The opening laps were blistering fast with Conner building a gap starting on the first lap. No one could match Conner’s pace as he set the fastest lap of the day out of all classes. Matt ran a smooth race holding second position ahead of Andy in third. Half way through the main event Greg Shelton recovered from early lap issues to move into the fourth position. In the closing laps it seemed that this would be the finish as Conner’s truck stalled. He had exhausted his battery and began to try to limp the truck to the finish line. He had a large lead but not enough to keep Matt away from a first place finish. Conner limped across the line in second place and Andy finished in third place. Greg finished in fourth place with Steve Boster in fifth place. Short Course classes are always strong at WRCR and the Stock Short Course Truck 17.5 class was well attended in round with fast drivers throughout the entire field. This round it was again Dan Dresselhouse taking hold of the Top Qualifying position in the first round and fending off Tom Erickson and Sean Carney. The start of the A-main was smooth through the first section filing through in starting order. Dan and Tom entered the six-pack side by side with Sean close behind. The gap between these three drivers was always small as the laps clicked off. C.J. Boka settled into the fourth position early on getting ahead of Andy Dresselhouse on the opening lap. The track conditions were such that trucks were sliding in the corners. Sean was able to get by Tom through the off-camber turn as Tom would not able to hold his line. This pass would hold all the way to the finish. Dan crossing in first place, Sean in second place, and Tom in third place. Modified Short Course Truck is a class that has a lot of power and not a lot of traction. The track conditions changed enough over the heats that it was a challenge to put down consistent laps. Gary Reiser was able to come out on top with the fastest qualifying round starting in the pole for the A-main. Matt Lemorie started second ahead of Anthony “Unkown” Wright and Kymm “Skittles” Thompson. In the opening laps Gary drove smooth and steady with Matt close behind. Anthony and Kymm slipped back into a battle for third right away. Gary amassed a large lead as the event crossed the midpoint. Matt mounted a charge as he settled into a grove and chiseled away the lead lap after lap. Just as the two leaders were on the same straight away Matt misjudged the six-pack and flipped his truck reducing the pressure on Gary. The finish order was solidified with Gary in first Place, Matt in second Place, and Anthony in third place. The size of the Stampede class again grew in round 2 with 11 large tired trucks on the track banging together and flipping over each other around the track. Great racing action is always a promise in this class with all drivers sporting large smiles as they raced. Qualifying was competitive again with Ben Belote and Matt Lemorie pushing each round to best each other. Matt was able to clear the dust and grab the Top Qualifier position for the A-main and the extra point toward the season title. At the start, Matt and Ben sped through the first turn jumping through the option lane as the rest of the pack piled up behind them. Ben cut the sweeper on the inside setting up a drag race with Matt for the lead. Through the off-camber Ben was able to inch ahead of Matt and the two leapt over the two single jumps leading to the hairpin before the six pack. Behind them the gap was already growing on the first lap as the group of trucks started settling in for the 7 minute A-main. C.J. Boka started third but as they crossed the line on the first lap it was Sean Carney ahead by only 1 second. Joe Gates was close behind in 5th place. The lead pair continued to put on a show with Matt looking to pass on every corner but Ben holding him off. The opening laps saw CJ, Sean and Joe swapping positions every lap allowing the lead pair to grow their gap. By mid race CJ has secured the third position leaving Sean and Joe to work out the fourth position. By the end of the race Ben had run a smooth and steady event setting top lap times and captured the first position. Matt was not far behind in second place and CJ in third place. Sean would end up fourth and Joe in fifth place. The Mini class is still growing this season. The round 2 track modifications have made it easier for these little cousins. Lap times have shown this with Ben Belote, Joe Gates, and Milo Spieth improving over last event. The Mini main ran 5 minutes for these three drivers with Joe starting from the top spot. The first lap was the challenge for Joe flipping his truck allowing Ben to take the lead. Ben set fastest lap early on leaving Joe and Milo chasing. Ben was driving Joe’s buggy and lead all the way to the finish. Joe held on for second place and Milo cleaned up the rest of the podium in third place. The second round proved that the Novice program will be strong this season – and it will also be competitive. Qualifying through three rounds culminated with Terry Bush on top. Terry’s skills are improving every race as he is racing a few classes to accelerate his abilities. Round one winner, Troy Wells, was able to secure the second position and Mark Kohler started third in the A-main. The start of the main event was carnage through the option lanes delaying Terry enough for Troy to get past him and never looked back. Terry did what he could to chase but the lead kept growing as the laps ticked off. Mark Kohler also had issues at the start falling to fourth place as Milo Spieth took over third place after starting from the ninth position. Milo is another one of the up and coming young drivers that has improved every race. Midway through the 5 minute main Troy had a commanding lead, Terry was securely in second place leaving Milo and Mark to battle it out for the third position on the podium. These two were evenly matched during the main. Mark was able to connect cleaner laps and get past Milo with two laps to go. When the race ended Troy crossed the line in first place, Terry in second place on the same lap, Mark in third and Milo in fourth both one lap behind. Ben Politz finished fifth after early lap trouble. The next points event is planned for December 3rd, 2016. Source: WRCR [wrcr.biz] | Images: Kymm Thompson FacebookTwitterGoogle+Pin It |

Coelho ready to defend as ETS celebrates 10th season Posted: 01 Dec 2016 06:20 AM PST This weekend (2-4 December), the Yokomo Euro Touring Series will celebrate the start of its 10th season when over 300 racers from 29 countries travel to Hrotovice in the Czech Republic for the opening race of the six round championship. From small beginnings when the first ETS race was held in Vejle, Denmark in March 2008, over the 51 races that made up the subsequent 9 seasons the championship has established itself as one of touring cars’ most coveted titles with both drivers and manufacturers. Only 4 drivers have achieved the top prize and defending that title in Season #10 will be Bruno Coelho. The only multiple race winner last season, the only other race winners being the three champions that had come before him, Coelho will be looking to open his title defence with a win at the very same venue he made his debut. Having held more ETS races than any other venue, this being it’s seventh appearance on the calendar, Coelho made his carpet racing debut here in 2014. Just scraping into the A-Main qualifying 8th, next time round he made the podium behind Marc Rheinard and Ronald Volker but third time round, having since registered his first win on carpet, Coelho will be looking to reverse that result come Sunday evening. Having enjoyed reigning over the ETS as champion for 5-consecutive seasons, Ronald Volker wants his title back and as the newly crowned World Champion the Yokomo driver is in confident form. Interestingly each season the German went onto become champion he did so by winning the season opener with last year the first time he didn’t win Round 1 or in Hrotovice. Sharing the top spot in the statistics for the most race wins with long time arch rival Marc Rheinard, a Czech win would see him overtake Rheinard for the first time as the championship’s most winning driver. Kicking off his season perfectly in Hrotovice 12-months ago when he took the TQ and win, unfortunately the end result would turn out the same for Rheinard as he again finished runner-up in the championship. Champion in Season #3, the Tamiya driver has been Vice-champion ever since and with talk that this may possibly be the last ETS outing for Tamiya’s TRF race team, the loyal 4-time World Champion will be determined to win once more with them and extend Tamiya’s tally as the most winning manufacturer in the ETS’ premiere Modified class. Winning the inaugural ETS title with Jilles Groskamp, the iconic Japanese model manufacturer has enjoyed 21 races wins and 3 titles. Outside of the three title favourites, Coelho’s team-mate Alexander Hagberg should be in the mix as well as Rheinard’s team-mate Christopher Krapp, both drivers among the ETS’ exclusive list of race winners. Multiple race winner Yannic Prumper begins his second season with VBC Racing and will be looking to put what was learnt last season to good use. Team-mate Lucas Urbain showed strong promise with the car in Japan last weekend so both drivers together with new signing Marc Fisher will be aiming a strong showing. The first ETS encounter since the World Championships in China in August, Serpent’s Viktor Wilck will try to continue on from his impressive podium finish and try for a similar result, something that eluded the 2 time winner & 4 time Top Qualifier last season. On the back of his best ETS campaign, finishing 5th in the standings, Awesomatix’ Viljami Kutvonen wants more podium finishes having done so twice last season. In Pro Stock and Formula, Jan Ratheisky is the man to beat as champion of both classes. Wrapping up a 4th consecutive Formula title early last year having won the season opener, he would also become the first driver to do the double when he claimed the Pro Stock title as well making it a clean sweep of the ETS for Xray. A big change for Formula this season is the switch to new handout electrics from Scorpion Power who have created a high quality motor featuring a rev limiter. Ratheisky won both A-Mains in Hrotovice last season but his rivals will be trying even harder to topple his reign in particular of Formula. FacebookTwitterGoogle+Pin It |

Asian Onroad Championship Rd5 – Report Posted: 01 Dec 2016 02:25 AM PST Since 2013, the Asian Onroad Championship has grown through the years and has become the premiere onroad racing event in the Asia Pacific. Making five stops throughout the calendar year in various regions across Asia, the AOC continues to grow and gain momentum from each and every event bringing with it a world class level of competition wherever it goes. The final stop on the 2016 schedule was held at the historic Yatabe Arena in Tsukuba, Japan. With heritage and history like the Yatabe Arena, the final AOC event was sold out within a few days and has become the biggest race in Japan attracting many international racers from across the world including from countries like Germany, France, America, and other neighboring Asian countries like China, Taiwan, Korea to name just a few. Not only were racers on hand, the event attracted over 20 RC vendors that setup a display/support booth and transformed the atmosphere into a mini RC Expo. Friday kicked off with controlled practice giving all racers a chance to dial in their cars and adjust themselves to the massive 21 x 38 meter track dimensions as well as the super high grip surface. This year’s layout was technical as it was fast providing challenge to all drivers of any skill level. With three qualifiers on Saturday plus one more ran on Sunday before the mains, the schedule was tight as racers would qualify using best two of four runs to sort for the 10-car main. In addition, the racer favorite “bump up” system was used to allow the top two finisher of the lower mains advancing into the next main giving drivers a possible second chance to make the coveted A-main. The most interesting race came from the Modified Sedan class with a very rare qualifying overall finish with four different drivers TQ’ing each of the four rounds, resulted in a 3-way tie-breaker between Yokomo’s Ronald Volker, VBC’s Lucas Urbain and Destiny’s Jin Sawada. Current ISTC World Champion Ronald Volker had a slow start to his AOC campaign, but was able to finally get things going early Sunday morning and carry the momentum from his final round TQ, into the five minute intense A final. From start to finish, Volker was able to clear himself from the elite pack and drove at his own comfort level and was able to pull a comfortable gap from him and the field. Fighting till the end, Lucas Urbain was constantly lurking from attack distance keeping Volker honest the entire race. Without a mistake from the WC, Urbain would finish only 1.5 seconds behind and lock up a satisfying second. Unfortunately for young Japanese rising star, Destiny’s Jin Sawada would suffer a mechanical resulting in a ninth place finish. Sawada, who was able to TQ one of the four rounds in qualifying, was in third place at the time of his wheel nut failure. Benefiting from Sawada’s misfortune, third on down would be gifted a spot and with a terrific crowd pleasing late race pass, Yokomo’s Naoki Akiyama would edge out his teammate, Yugo Nagashima for third and final spot on the podium. Making the trip from Germany, Xray’s Jan Ratheisky showed magnificent form in the 13.5 Boosted Sedan class by TQ’ing three out of four rounds and a tone to tone win in the five minute A-final. The ETS Champion was able to dial his car in early and maintained a comfortable distance from his competitors during the A final to take the win with a big smile on his face. His closest competitors were Tsutomu Ikeya, who would finish second and Kiyoto Kanno, would dropped a spot from his qualifying position and finished third. After a great effort in qualifying in the 17.5 Stock Sedan class, TQ Akihiko Ogiwara would make a crucial mistake during the main that would give second place qualifer, Yoichi Kojima the lead and enough space to take home the win. Ogiwara would recover to finish a respectable second with Yoshikatsu Namba taking home third. The FWD class saw some competitive racing between the top 5 drivers during the five minute final, but it was Shogo Eida taking the win with relative ease as he as he did in qualifying with the fastest time in three out of four rounds. With a good gap to third, Mamoru Ishikawa had second on lock down while the real battle was for third between Okawa Takayuki and a hard charging Yoshikatsu Namba, who was battling back from a poor start. In the end, Takayuki would finish third for the final podium spot. The Formula class saw a bit of resurgence with the class fielding out to a D-main. However in the end it was dominated single handedly by one young and talented individual, Yokomo’s Toto Ebukuro. Ebukuro went on to TQ three of the four rounds and pull himself out of harms way early in the five minute A-final and deliver a flawless race taking the win by a secure nine seconds. This left Satoshi Yamazaki and former 1/10th scale offroad World Champion, Hayato Matsuzaki duel it out for the 2 remaining spots on the podium. For the entire race, Matsuzaki was trying to find a clean way around Yamazaki, but was unable to make the pass happen and as the pair would cross the line with 0.2 seconds between them. Yamazaki would finish second and Matsuzaki third on the podium. In a class some consider too fast, the field was stacked with top Japanese Modified 1/12th scalers from all over Japan including the reigning and 4-time 1/12th scale World Champion Naoto Matsukura. However, stealing the show this weekend was Yokomo’s Toto Ebukuro, who was razor sharp and perfectly consistent all weekend. Ebukuro would go on to TQ three of the four rounds and lead from tone to tone for the entire 8-minute A-final. Once Ebukuro found his rhythm, he would go on to slowly pull a comfortable gap and manage it until the finish. Third place qualifier, CRC’s Kosuke Suzuki would pursue after Ebukuro, but could only close the gap down to 1.5 seconds and claim second. Morotech’s Toshinobu Yanagisawa would put in an excellent drive and finish with a strong third to round out the podium. Growing in popularity, the 1/12th Stock class saw 40 drivers contest for the win, but came down to two drivers during qualifying. Splitting qualifying rounds was Morotech’s Yoshi Yanagisawa and Kyosho pilot, Usui Seigi. The overall would be decided by the tie-breaker giving the top spot to Seigi. During the A-main, Seigi’s steady and smooth style proved too strong for the young speedster, Yanagisawa. Every time Yanagisawa would close the gap to Seigi, he would make a costly error just as he was about to attack. With three chances and three mistakes for Yanagisawa, Seigi would cruise to an easy win after the long eight minute main. Kazushige Tomita would go on to finish second just ahead of Yanagisawa in third. Source: AOC [aocrc.com] FacebookTwitterGoogle+Pin It |
