JConcepts Octagons 1/10th buggy tyres Posted: 21 Jul 2017 07:42 AM PDT Coming from JConcepts are the new Octagons 1/10th buggy tyres for high-bite slick tyre racing. At the appropriate time, and when less tread is an advantage, vehicles can be tough to drive and this is where the Octagons kick in as JConcepts has removed a little surface area in the geometry based pattern. The carcass is new, slightly more round than JConcepts’ slick tyres of the past and it incorporates heavy X-pattern style inner ribbing for increased support. The continuous thickness carcass is light-weight and utilises the industry standard 2.2″ mounting bead. Like the name suggests, the embossed tread which is Octagon shaped is repeated and overlapped to form a subculture of grippy surface edges for dry or abrasive surfaces. The Octagons are available as 2WD front, 4WD front and general rear tyre in green, black and indoor clay, gold compounds to match just about any racing surface. Each package includes the Dirt-Tech inserts. Source: JConcepts [jconcepts.net] FacebookTwitterGoogle+Pin It |
Rob Janssen wins at Dutch EP On-road Nationals Rd4 Posted: 21 Jul 2017 07:05 AM PDT Round 4 of the Dutch Electric On-road Nationals was recently held in Groningen in the north of the country. The usually bumpy track underwent a bit of a revision by the club, resulting in less bumps but a lower grip but at the end of the day it was the same for all competitors. Sunday, race day and the drivers were greeted by overnight rain. In the Touring class local racer Sybrand de Boer set the TQ in Q1 and Q2 with Rob Janssen being hot on his heels especially in Q2. In the opening main final and with a different tyre preparation Rob was able to hold contact with Sybrand until it started to rain again and the carnage began. With unusual racing lines Rob was able to get an advantage and he was able to pull away from the field until the others found out. A2 was completely rain soaked and only five drivers dared to attend the final that was ultimately won by Rob who was the fastest on rain tyres and pulling his unusual lines. Also attending in A3 despite having scored the overall win, as every result counts towards the overall championship, it was again Rob who excelled, taking his third win of the day and further improving his lead in the season standings. BRCA 1/8th IC Track Nationals Rd5 – Report Posted: 21 Jul 2017 02:37 AM PDT The fifth round of the BRCA 1/8 Circuit National Championship headed back to the popular Halifax circuit facility. There was a good turnout of around fifty-five drivers across the two classes. Saturday was practice day with drivers working on different setups and trying things ready for Sunday. The weather forecast was good for a change and quite hot for the UK. In the Nitro class, it was very close between the top 4 across qualifying with just over a second and half covering 1st to 4th. With the track conditions getting hotter, drivers found it hard to improve with the fastest times generally set in round one or two. Spashett continued his good form, taking pole position from Mark Green, Neal King and Tim Wood. These drivers seemed to be in a league above the rest. Clive Connolly qualified a superb 5th, also followed by Andrew North, Neil Diver, Jason Frost and Michael Walton completing the line-up for the A-final. Andrew Hastings was very unlucky with engine issues in qualifying but would show his true pace dominating the B-final. The Electric class reached nearly twenty racers and again showed a perhaps more relaxed alternative way to race 1/8 Circuit, without screaming engines/clutch setup etc., although those looking for the true adrenaline rush from RC cars would argue racing nitro still gives the biggest buzz. Alex Thurston continued to set the pace taking pole with Adam Catchpole taking 2nd and Gavin Clinch starting 3rd in the finals. Other drivers joining the regulars in the A-final included David Sedgewick and Neil Wallace, who previously ran nitro. Craig Woods and Lee Chapman were to start at the front for the B-final, with Craig having been on the A-final podium previously at Mendip. The Nitro main final was full of incidents with a big crash on the straight further on down the order, taking out three drivers. Meanwhile, up front the battle raged with Mark Green hitting mechanical issues early on, leaving David Spashett and Tim Wood to battle for the win. In the end, Tim took a narrow victory of under half a second even after some eventful pit stops for Serpent from David Spashett. Neal King recovered from a bad start to the race to come through to third place. Nitro final results: In the Electric A-mains, both finals were close affairs with Alex winning both legs by around a second from Adam Catchpole, with Gavin Clinch taking solid third places but some way behind the front two drivers. Joe Hawnt came fourth in leg one but issues in leg two meant he couldn’t challenge for the podium. Jamie Paton and Paul Bellinger also improved from their grid positions to take fourth overall and sixth respectively. The win crowns Alex Thurston and Serpent as the 1/8 Circuit Electric class 2017 champions. Serpent is still the most popular chassis to have and well supported trackside along with the ARC chassis.
