Mark Sousa wins Pro Nitro Buggy at King of Kings race Posted: 31 Jul 2017 08:55 AM PDT Stateline Raceway held the King of Kings race this past weekend and it was Mark Sousa who would take the win in the Pro Nitro Buggy A-main. Qualifying 4th on the grid, Mark had a good battle with Tyler Jones for 2nd in the opening stages before Tyler would make a mistake and Mark was able to get around him and was behind Dakota Phend by 8 seconds until Dakota broke his car. At that point Collin Weatherholt got around Mark for the lead and the two battled for a bit. Mark was able to get around him after Colin pitted but unfortunately he flamed out coming out of pit lane and that left Sousa to battle with Austin Horne for the win. Two two went back and forward but Mark Sousa (Xray) was able to open it up at the very end to take the win from Austin Horne (Team Associated) 2nd and Collin Weatherholt (TLR) 3rd. Haugen & Husman win at EFRA 40+ IC Track Euros Posted: 31 Jul 2017 07:19 AM PDT The 2017 EFRA 40+ Nitro On-road European Championships were held in Skarpnäck, Sweden, this past weekend. With the Friday being rained off the event was basically a 1-day affair which made it necessary to reduce the qualifiers to three rounds with the two best to count. In 1/8th on-road it was Sweden’s Mikael Fransson (Serpent) with the TQ while Andreas Husman (Mugen) TQ’d the 200mm Touring class. After the Superpole Lars Haugen (Mugen) in 1/8th and Mickael Brandt (Xray) in Nitro Touring were the two other drivers to score direct spots in their respective main finals. From the start of the 1/8th final Mikael Fransson set the pace and he was able to open a gap on 2nd placed Lars Haugen. Everything seemed decided but then Fransson ran into engine problems, allowing Lars Haugen, with safe drive, to take the EFRA 40+ European Champion title from Henri Fredriksson (Shepherd) in 2nd and Trygve Berntsen (Mugen) in 3rd. In 1/10th it was again the TQ holder with an advantage over the field but different from Mikael Fransson in the 1/8th class, Andreas Husman was able to bring home the win from Mickael Brandt on the runner-up spot and Bernd Hasselbring (Xray) who rounded out the podium in 3rd. In the mains it was Antonio who set the pace, winning both A1 and A2 with Xray team mates Hein Kotze securing second and André Greeff completing the podium. The TQ and win also gives Antonio Caroli the national title for 2017 with still two rounds remaining. 1/12th scale Modified final results: The Stock class is still growing with lots of interest from new drivers to participate in the future events.
