Posted: 13 Sep 2017 08:39 AM PDT Dario Balestri has taken the second round of qualifying at the 1:8 Onroad World Championships in France, the Italian coming good on his free practice pace from 2 days earlier. The Infinity driver topped the round from Bruno Coelho as Q1 pace setter Simon Kurzbuch threw away a potential TQ run when he put his Shepherd on the grass. With marshalling assistance required to rejoin, the error would leave the reigning champion 17th. Again the track showed it deserves respect with Top seed Naoto Matsukura again crashing out, only this time it ended his run less than 1-minute in. Behind Coelho, who also had a excursion, Jessie Davis completed the Top 3 making up for an error filled Q1 in which he ended up P29. Backing up his strong Q1 P6 run, Lars Hoppe would set the fourth fastest time ahead of Lamberto Collari and Teemu Leino. Continue reading this report here or view our complete event coverage here. |

The Shepherd driver put in an error free round, capitalising on mistakes from both top seed Naoto Matsukura and Bruno Coelho to top the times from free practice pace setter Dario Balestri. McBest Series Rd9 & Rd10 – Report Posted: 13 Sep 2017 01:16 AM PDT Last weekend the last two rounds of the McBest race series were held on the technical MRG Dogern track. In 1/10th Touring Marco Schwab, Dominik Denoth and Stefan Wüthrich were equal on points going into the final weekend while in 1/8th scale Martin Wenger only needed one good result to drive home his victory in the overall ranking as Beat Heiniger and Stefan Graber fought for 2nd place. The weekend started off wet on Saturday and the tyre choice was a hard one because the conditions kept changing. In 1/8th scale Stefan Wüthrich unfortunately lost a lot of time when a tyre left its rim while leading the race as Martin took the win from Beat and this meant Martin Wenger would snatch a back-to-back championship. 1/8th final results: The win in the 1/10th class went to Roland Fankhauser from Marco Schwab and Nico Prisciantelli. 1/10th final results: On Sunday the track dried until midday. In 1/8th scale Patrick Fankhauser made his first outing following three seasons of 1/10th racing using Martin Wenger’s rain car. Martin had to settle for 2nd in front of Beat Heiniger, the latter securing himself the vice-championship with the result. 1/8th final results: In 1/10th scale and after a bad start, Kevin Lehnherr recovered following a great race to take the win in front of Marcel Knutti. Stefan Wüthrich again had bad luck. His car was, while leading again, damaged during a lapping attempt and the chances for victory were gone. He finishes his season on the very good 2nd place. 1/10th final results: Source: Xray [teamxray.com] |
3rd annual JConcepts Turf Nationals – Report Posted: 13 Sep 2017 12:45 AM PDT The 3rd annual JConcepts Turf Nationals was held at RC Madness in Enfield, Connecticut this past weekend. The event is ever gaining traction – literally, and within just two short years has evolved into the nation’s biggest race on astro with entries now nearing 300. Without a doubt, the North Eastern drivers have embraced astro racing with both arms wide open and with it, has created the first of the “Astro Classics” type races here in the United States. It’s true, astro isn’t clay, but clay isn’t astro either. Both surfaces give a platform to race on with different properties of grip and adhesion. Having caught onto the growing trend early on, RC Madness has become a track that has grown with lots of astro experience that produces terrific, fun and exciting layouts that are suited for astro-style racing. This year’s layout was a great mix of high and low speed sections spiced up with technical elevated corners, step ups, and table tops. With perfect sun-warmed weather, the event started off on Friday without any hitches. The open practice session was smooth and allowed all drivers to properly set up their cars on JConcepts spec tires. As everyone rolled into Saturday, there was two qualifying rounds with the final round scheduled for Sunday morning right before resorting for the A-mains. The qualifying format was taking fastest time via rocket rounds to sort for a 10-car main +2 car bump ups. In 4WD Modified Buggy having out qualified Team Associated’s Alex Kosciuszek by just 0.2 seconds through three rounds of qualifying, Team Associated’s Spencer Rivkin was able to take advantage of his track position to quickly pull away from the field. The wizard took a bit of time to get the flow going in 4WD and was forced to close the gap before it was too late. Taking the entire race to come within striking distance, Alex would make a small mistake while landing his car off the table top that resulted in lost time. With a picture perfect Spencer Rivkin, the 2WD World Champion would go on to take the win with Alex 2nd and only two seconds back. Xray’s Jeff Statkicwicz would move up two spots to grab himself the last spot on the podium with fine driving and consistency. In 2WD Modified Buggy it was another monumental showdown between two of the biggest young talents in the RC racing scene. This time, it was Team Associated’s Alex Kosciuszek out qualifying the current 2WD IFMAR World Champion, Spencer Rivkin, to grab the crucial front row position. As the tone went off, the two drivers would escape and instantly engage in their own battle. With a mistake from Alex getting on the straight, Spencer would capitalize and take over the lead. However, on the very next lap, Spencer would make a similar mistake as Alex, but would drop from 1st to 11th. Alex would cruise himself into first with Spencer fighting his way back to 2nd and local legend, TLR’s Anthony Mazzara, would move himself up to 3rd. In Stadium Truck Modified it was a classic two-truck battle between TLR’s Caleb Stevens and Team Associated’s Steve Charles with Charles edging out Stevens for coveted TQ spot. However, young Stevens showed massive speed increases throughout the weekend and started to find the astro groove during the mains. Once Stevens was able to find his way around Charles, Stevens was able to deliver clean lines and keep the door closed. With fantastic driving, the two would put on a battle that lasted till the finish line with Stevens taking 1st and Steve Charles 2nd. TLR’s Joshua Spiewak converted a great start from 6th to finish 3rd. It was Steve Charles taking the spotlight in Modified Short Course having TQ’d to go on and took a convincing win in the 5-minute A-main event. 2nd place qualifier, Derek Marks finished in 2nd and Jim Mitchell 3rd, exactly in the same order as qualifying. It was TLR’s Anthony Mazzara setting the top times in 40+ 2WD Mod class during the three qualifying rounds. Picking up speed throughout the weekend, JConcepts top boss, Jason Ruona, was getting quicker with every pack. During the 5-minute main event, Ruona would put the pressure on Mazzara, but a late mistake would deny him a chance to attempt a pass for the lead. Mazzara would deliver a clutch run to take the win, Ruona 2nd and Team Associated’s Scott Furtado would battle back to wrap up 3rd overall. The 13.5 4WD class saw an explosive Matthew Olson take charge early in the weekend setting TQ times in qualifying and a tone to tone win in the main. Authoritatively, Olson would take the win with John Cravotta 2nd and Shakey Hands 3rd. Matthew Olson would deliver a great A-main run to take the win in the 17.5 Expert Stock 2WD class with a daring mid air pass maneuver half way through the race. As Mazzara was taking the safe route of double single, Olson would line himself up to jump the triple and make the pass stick after landing. From there, Olson would maintain his lead and cross the line first to take the win. Mazzara was unable to find a clean way around Olson and settle for 2nd. Shakey Hands would work his magic keep his spot on the podium in 3rd. Source: JConcepts [jconcepts.net] |

Arrowmax 5mm to 4mm reducer sleeves Posted: 13 Sep 2017 12:07 AM PDT Coming from Arrowmax are 5mm to 4mm reducer sleeves that allow to use LiPo batteries equipped with 5mm tubes, with standard 4mm bullet-type connectors. The latest breed of LiPo batteries often comes with 5mm connector tubes whereas the former industry standard was 4mm, making it necessary to have different charging cables and even power connectors at hand when using both types of batteries. The reducer sleeves will kick in here as they are inserted in the 5mm tubes, effectively creating a 4mm hole that is usable with all standard 4mm bullet type connectors. The sleeves come as pairs, they are 24K gold-plated and are easily swapped between battery packs. Source: Arrowmax [arrowmax-rc.com] |
