Xray X1 2018 1/10th Formula car kit Posted: 24 Oct 2017 07:12 AM PDT Xray have introduced the 2018 variant of their EFRA European Championship and ETS winning X1 formula car kit. The vehicle is based on the 2017 variant and features some subtle updates compared to the previous car. First up and most visible is an all-new chassis design with the ’18 main plate being 24mm narrower compared to the ’17 car in order to eliminate chassis scrub in high speed corners and when running on high-bite surfaces. Utilising a way slimmer chassis was made possible by using redesigned side-link mounts that are cut from carbon fibre and that rest on two aluminium bushings, doing away with the need to mount them directly onto the chassis and giving additional clearance under chassis roll. New for 2018 are also updated steering spindles with an additional steering link mounting position for a near 100 percent Ackermann curve. The optimised steering geometry will make for more mid-corner steering while the standard positions are still accessible for fine-tuning purposes. Next up is an updated centre shock adapter that allows to run short or long damper configurations. The new forward position, that attaches to the servo mount, will ensure a more planted ride over bumps and more on-power traction while the standard position makes for better steering response on high traction tracks. As for the servo mount, the 2018 kit includes an updated carbon top plate to accommodate the new, longer shock setup. Also new is the tweak-free lower pivot brace that was redesigned for quicker and easier mounting of the pod plate. The new grooved design is easy to adjust while the ultra-small and lightweight pivot ball allows for greater movement of the lower pod plate. Another new part in the mid section of the chassis is the updated rear link brace with longer keys to more securely hold the battery pack and to ensure the battery can be moved forth and back by 5mm. In addition a side shock can be used over the conventional tube dampers. Along with the link brace comes an updated, chassis-located mounting position for a composite battery back stop that allows for safely locate the LiPo pack in a front or rear cross position. The kit is rounded out by a 2-piece front wing, a composite rear wing and a low-profile body shell. 2018 features: The full presentation can be found here. Source: Xray [teamxray.com] |

RPM Baja Rey front bumper & skid plate Posted: 24 Oct 2017 03:17 AM PDT Coming from RPM and made for the Losi Baja Rey truck are a front bumper and skid plate set. With the original Losi front skid plate being too stiff, preventing the bumper from absorbing impacts, RPM have designed an all-new assembly by moving the entire skid plate from between the chassis plate and differential to below the aluminium chassis plate. This move solved a couple of problems, it offers additional chassis protection while also creating a flex zone on the skid plate that would allow more movement of the bumper in impact situations, ultimately saving from costly repairs. The bumper was redesigned as well, strengthening the mount between the skid plate and bumper, yet also creating another flex zone that allows the bumper to compress under extreme impacts, yet return back to its original shape once the impact energy has dissipated, ultimately protecting the more fragile areas of the truck such as the front differential and chassis plate since the bumper now absorbs the impact instead of transferring that energy into the chassis. The bumper and skid plate are moulded from RPM’s renown nylon composite and the set will hit stores soon. Source: RPM [rpmrcproducts.com] |

Team Associated Offroad Championships – Report Posted: 24 Oct 2017 02:32 AM PDT The Team Associated Offroad Championships was hosted by Trackside Hobbies and Raceway this past weekend and it had become one of the most anticipated races on the Eastcoast. Formerly known as the Spektrum and/or Horizon Hobby Race, the event has evolved into the Team Associated Offroad Championships and now attracts AE’s top pros. This year, the AE race consisted of 330 entries and a star-studded field of drivers to battle on the legendary Trackside Raceway. Taking the checkered flag in the 2WD Modified class was Team Associated’s Ryan Cavalieri, who was able to set TQ and go on to win A1 by 0.17 seconds over AE teammate Dustin Evans. A2 came much easier as Cav took the win by four seconds over 2nd place finisher Jared Tebo (Kyosho). With a clutch win in A3, Spencer Rivkin (Team Associated) would catapult himself up to 3rd and get on the podium as Dustin finished 2nd. In 4WD Modified, Spencer Rivkin delivered when it counted most by taking a close win in A1 and A2 to seal up the overall. Once again, it was Dustin Evans contesting for 2nd, but with a remarkable performance by Cavalieri to win A3, Cav would end up ahead of Dustin by tie-breaker and to make it another all Team Associated top 3. Showing how to get it done in Modified Truck was Team Associated’s Dustin Evans. Dustin was fast throughout qualifying taking the TQ and the single 7-minute A-main win. Giving Dustin a run for his money was Team Associated’s Cole Tollard. Cole is lights out fast at Trackside and nearly pulled out the upset, but have to settle for 2nd. Aydin Horne showed great speed in all classes this past weekend and put in a terrific drive to finish 3rd in the class. Hard to beat in any class, Ryan Cavalieri pilots his Team Associated truck to another victory in Modified Short Course. The current SCT National Champion has been on a roll and was able to distance himself comfortably from 2nd place finisher Spencer Rivkin (Team Associated). Team Associated’s Austin Horne would make the box showing his speed. Making it happen in the 40+ 2WD Open class, Al Horne set the pace in qualifying, but a tough A1 would see Al finished a disappointing 7th. However, when the going got tough, Al stepped up to win A2 and A3 bouncing back to take the overall. Aaron Reichow and Troy Weber would finish 2nd and 3rd on the podium. It was a great effort by Kyle Gannon nearly taking the win in the 13.5 4WD class. Leading A3, Kyle needed Chase Ordog to stay ahead of Gregory Tennies and on the last lap, Ordog would make a mistake allowing Tennies to finish 2nd and take the overall by tie-breaker from Kyle Gannon 2nd and Chase Ordog 3rd.
