Posted: 21 Feb 2018 08:58 AM PST Available now is MR33’s new V3 Asphalt additive. It was developed especially for the use on asphalt as it is slightly thicker than the previous version. Furthermore the new formula was created to reduce the aggressiveness on tyres. This effect is a benefit especially for Formula cars that had to deal with some problems last season but the V3 test results showed high traction and less tyre wear. The traction compound comes in 100ml bottle with sponge applicator. Source: Tonisport [tonisport.de] |
Gene Hickerson wins at 2017 FORCE Series finale Posted: 21 Feb 2018 07:32 AM PST The 2017 FORCE Series finals of the eight-round series was held this past weekend at Mills Pond in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The final round was postponed due to the hurricane that went straight up the center of Florida last Fall. Mills Pond is one of if not the Most Southern track in the USA, so the weather was nice and warm all weekend long in the winter month of February. The track was treated with calcium chloride and sugar to try to keep the dust down and increase traction levels. Unfortunately the Florida sun won again and it became a dust bowl with huge ruts and bumps and cupped out jump faces, making the very simple tight layout into a real challenge due to the super high grip and sandy rutted track. 160 entries signed up to battle in the 3 -day long event. The track was heavily watered and the ruts patched Friday night after practice, so Saturday morning saw a damp slick but smooth track for the first round of 40+ Buggy qualifying. Local fast guy Luis Perez set TQ in round 1 with his Mugen by 4 seconds over the infamous and legend Gene “The Machine” Hickerson whom is now about to turn 44 years of age. The Machine who recently announced that he was stepping down as a factory team manager/driver to race for fun again as a privateer, was there testing various buggies. This made the race director – World famous Lance MacDonald – angry because The Machine kept running a different buggy each qualifier and they had different transponders in them. This round the Machine ran the new Mugen MBX8 with a few changes to Adam Drake’s setup on it. In round 2 the track was now dry and dusty with loads of traction. The Machine set TQ with the Mugen by 0.5 seconds over Carlos Segui’s MBX8. The final round of qualifying saw a very bumpy and super grooved track. The Machine once again took TQ, giving him the overall TQ for the 45-minute A-main. But what was a shock to many was that The Machine drove a JQRacing Black Edition car. The lower mains were all run Saturday night, leaving all the A-mains for Sunday. At 9:00am, the first 45-minute A-main was up – the 40+ Nitro Buggy class. Since THE CAR was so good in the last qualifier, the Machine raced the JQRacing buggy again. Hickerson and Perez checked out and battled for the lead for the first 8 minutes until The Machine played it safe and pitted. Perez took over the lead until the 9-minute mark when he pitted at the correct time for a 45-minute main. Then the battle was back on until Perez had an unfortunate flame out. That gave The Machine a huge lead so all he had to do was put it on cruise control and take an easy win. Unfortunately Gene had a malfunction. Sources say that age has taken a toll on The Old Machine and the joints and muscles do not work like they used to, nor the hand and eye coordination and reflexes needed to be fast in RC Racing – maybe a lack of proper oil and lubrication for the rusty Machine was the culprit. Hickerson, who had looked great all through qualifying and THE first 15 minutes of the main, now looked like a novice driver who kept making mistakes and whose timing was all off on every jump. It turns out that Hickerson had lost all feeling in his throttle finger making driving an RC car virtually impossible. With each following pit stop and crash, The Machine would put the radio in his right hand and shake his left hand vigorously until blood flow returned to his finger and woke up again so he could continue driving. That added an extra five to ten seconds for each pit stop, but The Machine still ran away with the race and won by over two laps over 2nd place Carlos Segui and six laps over Kawri Brown in 3rd. Daniele Ielasi swaps asphalt for dirt Posted: 21 Feb 2018 01:26 AM PST In a statement on social media, Italy’s Daniele Ielasi has announced his, possibly temporary, turning away from competition nitro on-road racing. The former IFMAR World and Italian National Champion will concentrate on 1/8th Nitro and Electric Buggy racing in 2018, campaigning HB Racing’s B817 and E817 kits. Daniele points out that professional 1/8th on-road racing is taking too much of his time, feeling that race preparation counts more than racing itself, something he hopes will be different in off-road racing. About his move Daniele had the following to say: That’s right. From this year, after 30 exact years of track racing between categories 1/8 on and 1/10 on, it’s time to add a new challenge to my modeling career, off road! I have to admit it was a very difficult decision, but, as often happens in life you come to a point that you must have the strength to make certain decisions that are important to your future, and even if sometimes they may seem too hasty and little sense. That’s right. But they’re the right thing to do. Today “unfortunately” Category 1/8 runway has arrived at a very high level, where preparation in general counts more than anything, and I personally compared to the past, when I was a pilot at 100 %, I don’t have any more Time (for my work choices) that I can dedicate to the category I love and have always loved more than any other. I would like to point out, though, that it’s not a real good-bye to the track category, I’m going to turn around again, but this year will only be for private testing. So after all this, that’s why the decision to deal with this new challenge, a whole new world that still fascinates me very much and gives me new stimuli, especially because of the difficulty that this category entails for a pilot from the category category. That said, I want to thank my new and old sponsors so much: Hot Bodies, Schepis Model, Novarossi, Ielasi Tuned, Hot Race, Energy Fuel, Team Orion, Sanwa, APaint While knowing that for me it’s going to be a very hard path, they still give me confidence in my new adventure, thank you. The first challenge will be the Italian Championship, first test at Corigliano Calabro on March 9/10/11 Spring loads!!!! Stay tuned!!! P.S. a special thanks go to a friend Adrien Crf Bertin …. well he knows why. |
Lovan RC Challenge Rd3 – Report Posted: 21 Feb 2018 12:59 AM PST The Rethorica track in Alveringem, Belgium played host for the recent third round of the Lovan RC Challenge. The race schedule saw free practice on Saturday followed by the opening qualifier, three qualifiers on Sunday and triple mains for everybody. As the track layout was also used during the recent Funcup club race, many drivers came well prepared meaning times were very competitive right from the start. In the premier EFRA Modified Touring class some big names joined th field such as Remi Callens and Robin D’hondt as European champions as well as Remi’s training partner, Guillaum Guffroy it promised to be quite a race. Remi and Guillame had the chance to race on the same layout before and Robin did manage to practice on Saturday, however but was not able to make it on race day. Remi would then set the pace in the opening qualifier and took the round TQ in front of Robin, who only had a few days of running with his Capricorn, followed by the Tamiya of Guillaume and Schumacher team driver Ian Bekaert, as Lorenzo did not start due to a stripped spur gear. In the second qualifier Remi set the fastest lap of the qualifiers with a 14,188 with Guillaume coming in 2nd and Robin 3rd. The third qualifier however was a different scenario after a mistake by Remi. Robin took the 1st place in front of Guillaume. The fourth and final qualifier was a bit of the same scenario as the one before. Remi was busy with a great run, but on lap 14 he hit a barrier, but he had the best qualifying run in his second run. Robin came in 1st, Lorenzo 3rd, Remi 4th and Ian did not start, as he was running 1/12 also and tried to take all or nothing in that class. The finals saw great races by Remi, Robin and Guillaume, with not only great battles, but also great sportsmanship. Remi took the win in A1 with his Team Magic while Robin had a few small mistakes which cost him a second place to Guillaume. A2 then had Remi again coming out latest followed by Robin D’hondt and Guillaume. In A3 Remi had a few small mistakes which cost him some time, but he had no pressure, he was sure of his win with the first two finals. Robin managed to stay in 1st with a lot of pressure from Guillaume, with only 0.08s between them in their average laps. The overall podium then was Remi from Robin and Guillaume. In the Stock class it was a challenge for leader Tom Adams to decide at which race to participate, as the first round of the Belgium championship was held at the same date, but Tom decided to go for the Challenge title. But the 57 entries would not make it a walk in the park for Tom … There was a clear top 4 of drivers with changed positions in the qualifiers and ending up with the number 1 spot on the grid was Dimitri de Baeker with his Xray followed by Schumacher team driver Tom Adams, Jeremy Deram (Xray) and Gunter Lambrechts with his WRC, Peter Roeygens (Sray) Jean Hannecart (Schumacher) Joeri D’eer (Xray) Gilles Hendrickx (Tamiya), Steve Dellatre (Xray) and Thomas Hostyn (Xray). The opening A-main was not an easy race for the top drivers and Dimitri de Baeker took the win in front of Gunther and Jeremy as Tom had some bobbles and ended the race in P7. In A2 it was again Dimitri with the win and therefore the overall, followed by Jeremy, Tom and Gunter. As the race for the final podium spots was still open, the final A-main was a messy one as six cars tried to enter the chicane in the opening stages. Tom would hold the upper hand in that carnage and in the end Steve Delattre showed his class, coming from 9th to 2nd, while Dimitri de Baeker managed to come back to 3rd. Gunter quit the race after crashing on the second lap. Overall the podium was Dimitri de Baeker, with a comeback in the overall championship, Tom Adams in 2nd and event photographer Jeremy Deram in 3rd. The Stock championship is still open and will be decided at the final round. In the Formula class Willy Voisangrin was hampered by lack of practice on the new layout as he attended the ETS race that was held the same weekend as the ETS in Germany. This allowed Kris Vanbleu to take the opening two qualifiers, but Willy got back into grips in Q3 and Q4 to take the overall pole position for the A-mains. In the finals Willy continued to stay on top, taking wins in all three main meant a clean sweep. Kris had a great run in A1 but Ghislain Mantrand took the runner-up spots in A2 and A3 to take the overall 2nd place from Kris Vanbleu 3rd. In 1/12th scale Dimitri de Baeker took the pole position with his Xray from Ian Bekaert (Schumacher) 2nd, only two seconds behind. Fredick Carton followed in 3rd from Ollivier Cornard and Tony Bekaert. In the finals and with some fair driving, Dimitri made a clean sweep followed by Ian and Frederik. The next race will be the Funcup club race on the 3rd and 4th of March followed by the final Lovan Challenge round on the 17th and 18th of March. Thanks to Kris Vanbleu for the report. |
