| Fenix CRC gear diff & 0.2mm axle shims Posted: 20 Mar 2018 07:46 AM PDT Fenix have introduced a special version of their 1/12th pan car gear differential especially designed for CRC’s 1/12th scale pan cars as well as 0.2mm shims to fine-tune the rear track width of 1/12th scale and 1/10th formula cars. Starting with the gear diff, the part features a special red anodised aluminium hub with 4-40 UNC threads to suit US-style wheels. The diff will make for improved traction especially on high-bite surfaces as it prevents any slip within the construction compared to a ball differential, and the red anodised hub is also available separately. Also new is a 10-piece set of 0.2mm shims that can be used to fine-tune the rear track width of 1/12th scale pan and 1/10th formula cars. They can be used with both 1/4” and 6mm rear axles. The plugs are of a heavy-duty low-profile design with pre-shaped soldering area for easy soldering and a narrow design that clears most touring car top decks. The connectors and also the reducer tubes, that are utilised to use standard 4mm speed controller connectors with 5mm LiPo packs, come gold-plated for a low resistance and good corrosion resistance. | BRCA GT12 National Series Rd1 & Rd2 – Report Posted: 20 Mar 2018 06:50 AM PDT The first and second rounds of the BRCA GT12 National Series 2018 were hosted by the Eastbourne Electric Car Club at the Robertsbridge Community Sports Hall, Robertsbridge Community College, East Sussex. This is a new format this year for the BRCA GT12 National series with three venues hosting two rounds each over a weekend. Saturday saw 75 drivers attending round 1 with 73 drivers attending round 2 on Sunday with most drivers electing to attend both days. The race format for both days was a practice heat, four qualifying rounds and one final. The track was laid on ETS carpet with the introduction of orange dots to mark each apex which guided drivers to the racing line around the track. Qualifying on Saturday was extremely close at the top end, with Andy Murray and Ollie Payne fighting it out on the track for TQ. Throughout qualifying there was some seriously competitive racing throughout the field. Drivers would need a 24 lap qualifying run to get in to the top 5 in the A Final. Despite Ollie pushing hard in Q4 at his local track it was Andy Murray who took TQ. Mark Stiles, a regular A Finalist with his LMP12 car, was driving a Zen RXGT12 and was sitting in 3rd place after Q1 but eventually qualified 5th on the grid. At the end of qualifying the top ten were Andy Murray, Ollie Payne, Adam Catchpole, Ben Vincent, Mark Stiles, Mark Jewitt, Aidan Ripley, Nathan Goodban, Owen Smith and David Gale. Owen Smith was the top Junior driver of the day. All the finals from A to H were run over 6 minutes and saw some tidy and competitive driving throughout. In the A-final, Andy and Ollie were out front from the start and convincingly pulled away from the rest of the pack. Andy was pushed hard by Ollie throughout the race and with Ollie applying the pressure he then made a couple of minor mistakes which saw Andy taking a comfortable win. The top 5 drivers all finished over the line in their starting grid order, with Nathan Goodban finishing 6th from 8th on the grid giving him his first National A final finish. Round 1 final results: Qualifying on Sunday was again extremely close throughout the field and at the top end it was Andy Murray and Ollie Payne fighting it out for the overall TQ. With the track layout the same as Saturday and the grip higher, drivers needed a quick 24 lapper to compete for an A-final place. Andy and Ollie set the bar high, both with 25 lap qualifying runs. At the end of qualifying the top ten were Andy Murray, Ollie Payne, Adam Catchpole, Mark Stiles, Ben Vincent, Mark Jewitt, Nathan Goodban, David Gale, Aidan Ripley and Ben Elliott. So it would seem a bit of a ‘Groundhog Day’ repeat of Saturdays top 10 with the exception of Ben Elliott making the A-final, with Owen Smith just missing out and lining up 2nd in the B-Final. In the A-final Andy took a tone to tone win with Ollie chasing him for 6 minutes. This time the top 3 drivers all finished over the line in their starting grid order, with the top 7 drivers finishing in the same position as Saturday’s final. The vehicle builds on the IFMAR World Championship winning YZ-2 DTM and was developed for low, medium and high-traction dirt surfaces and it comes with an aluminium bell crank steering for a more linear steering feeling, a new aluminium centre steering link as well as new gullwing front A-arms. The rear end is equipped with new S3 rear lower suspension arms as well as aluminium suspension mounts with inserts for easy anti-squat, toe and roll centre adjustments. The Evo variant will feature a new carbon fibre main chassis and rear lower pod plate as well as an updated chassis brace, front bumper motor mount and upper plate along a newly introduced aluminium front suspension mount plate and a redesigned floating servo mount plate. | Carlos Guerra sweeps Bolivian Nats Rd1 Posted: 20 Mar 2018 02:18 AM PDT The opening round of the Bolivian 1/8th Off-road Nationals was held in La Paz this past weekend. Due to the location of the track, high above sea level, engine tuning was very difficult for the nitro drivers as were the weather conditions with rain making for a muddy track at times. In the end it was Carlos Guerra who made the best out of the conditions to bring home the win in the Nitro Buggy class from Bryan Bohrt 2nd and Jorge Zamora 3rd, making it an all JQ Racing top 3. Over in E-Buggy it was again Carlos Guerra with the win as Jorge Zamora and Wilson Cuellar rounded out the top 3 results for another JQ Racing 1-2-3 finish. Source: JQ Racing [jqracing.com] |
| Posted: 20 Mar 2018 01:57 AM PDT Round 4 of the Finnish FinTrack Tour took place at the Äänekoski indoor track last weekend. The facility offers both permanent on and off-road tracks and the club did a great job again hosting the indoor season finale. In the Touring Modified class, run on Saturday, Viljami Kutvonen took the win from Joel Valander and Georgy Chmigal in 2nd and 3rd respectively. The championship has three rounds ahead with the battle for the top 3 spots still being on between the 55 drivers that attended so far. Touring Modified Rd4 final results: In the Touring 13.5T class qualifying was super close with only a couple of tenths of a second separating the top 4 drivers. After the three mains it was Vesa Yli with the win, coming from the 3 spot on the grid, from Kalle Lehto 2nd and Miika Laurila 3rd. As for the overall championship, that concluded with round 4, Miika Laurila took the title honours with Vesa in 2nd and last year’s champion Kalle Lehto in 3rd. Touring 13.5T Rd4 final results: In Stock TC Ilari Lamminsivu, 2017 1/12 Stock champion, won the race after a great drive. Also a great drive from club mate Eemeli Anttonen who had the speed to win but had a hard time in first main as he had to retire due to broken switch after his car got hit.
