Hagberg ends 4-year ETS drought to reign in Spain Posted: 15 Apr 2018 09:17 AM PDT Alexander Hagberg has ended a four year drought in the Yokomo Euro Touring Series, the Xray driver taking victory at the first outdoor race of the season in Spain today. Claiming the last of his ETS wins in Germany in 2014 on carpet, the Swede got his third ETS career win after the result went to a tie break when Christopher Krapp won an eventful A3. With the overall result coming down to times, Hagberg’s quicker A2 win sealed his first win on asphalt ahead of Krapp and Bruno Coelho. For Top Qualifier Coelho it would be a fraught end to a day that started out so well. Having taken a very straight forward win in A1, a mistake in A2 dropped him behind Ronald Volker before the pair clashed handing Hagberg the win. Leading away the field in A3, another mistake on the curbing, this time on the opposite side of the track, put an end to what could have been a weekend that put his rivals well on the back foot, especially given season opening winner Marc Rheinard was having a tough weekend. Despite the result, Coelho still leaves Spain now with a 5-points advantage over Rheinard who came into the weekend as joint leader. Hagberg’s win moves him up to third pushing Volker, who gave up his A3 lead to try help Krapp get the overall win, back to fourth. Hagberg ends 4-year ETS drought to reign in Spain Posted: 15 Apr 2018 08:51 AM PDT Alexander Hagberg has ended a four year drought in the Yokomo Euro Touring Series, the Xray driver taking victory at the first outdoor race of the season in Spain today. Travelling to Spain fresh from winning a record 5th consecutive 1:12 European title, Hagberg said, ‘I am very happy to win of course but it was a very difficult A3 because of the wind which caused me to make a mistake and let Chrissy go’. Jumping from 8th to P3 on the grid with some smart tyre strategy than saw him TQ the final qualifier he said, ‘We knew Ronald would let Christopher through to help him win. I was not able to pass Ronald cleanly so my race was done after that but I knew from the track conditions it would be hard to beat my time. 4 years to finally win again. It has been too long’. He concluded, ‘I feel sad for my team-mate that he had back luck but that’s racing’. ‘For sure I’m happy to get 2nd place on the podium and for the team that Yannic hit fourth but, aagh, I’m also a little disappointed because I feel I could have made it (the win)’. The former ETS race winners’ first podium in a number of seasons, he continued, ‘I don’t know if it was the conditions or me. I tried to beat Hagberg’s time and think I had the car to make it but the last 3-4 laps were perfect so maybe I could have made better driving but overall I’m super happy. Finally our car is in good shape, for sure I’m disappointed for Ronald, but for the Yokomo team it was good to be competitive outdoors again especially when the Worlds are later this year’. Summing up his finals, a frustrated Coelho said, ‘it was not my day for sure’. Missing out on 12th ETS career win, he continued, ‘I made a good start (to A3) but touched the curb again. It was bad luck. In all the races I touched the curb there but in the most important race of the day it happened (the car rolled). Some days are just not your day’. Clearly unhappy with Coelho’s comments after A2, Volker wanted the opportunity to react to his rival. Finishing up with a disappointing 7th after what had started off with a resurgent performance from the World Champion, he said, ‘Just before A3 people told me what he had told Red RC and this totally pissed me off. He said I just had a glitch in my head but I was actually trying to get out of a body tuck. The lack of respect this guy has is disappointing. I’m actually the guy that lost the race’. Commenting on A3 he said, ‘I was easily in the lead and saw a small chance to help my team-mate win without being too unfair. I’m super happy with the performance of our car this weekend that showed we are back with a Yokomo 1-2-3 in A3’. With the Pro Stock and Formula winners determined in A2, the closing A-Main was about the rest of the podium. In Pro Stock, winner Max Mächler played the team role for Awesomatix running A3 to help make it a 1-2 overall for the Russian manufacturer. Allowing team-mate Olivier Bultynck to the front only for the Belgian to make a mistake and drop down the order Mächler chased down new leader Jan Ratheisky. Getting passed the championship leader to complete the clean sweep by preventing Ratheisky from winning A3 he secured Bultynck second overall. In Formula, Gonzalo Garcia snatched a popular win over Ratheisky in A3 but it didn’t change the podium with Jan Ratheisky ending up second overall to Bultynck while Ivan de La Calle completed the Top 3. In the Masters class there was a photo finish to A3, with Christian Drießle somehow beating Beni Stutz to the loop to claim the overall win. Championship leader Thomas Oehler completed the podium. Chassis – Serpent 4X Evo Remarks – Enjoying a good showing here at the first outdoor race of the ETS season, Viktor is running Serpent’s 4X Evo which here features a new rear end. With new upper arms that are mounted further towards the centre line of the car and new hubs which have a different offset, he says the changes give a different roll centre making changes more linear with the previous setting more aggressive. Hagberg wins A2 as Coelho & Volker clash Posted: 15 Apr 2018 05:28 AM PDT Alexander Hagberg has won the second A-Main at the ETS in Spain, the Xray driver the benefactor of A1 winner Bruno Coelho clashing with Ronald Volker as the latter led the race. Starting on pole, just as the field came around to complete the first lap Coelho would get his Xray on two wheels over the curbing allowing Volker through just before the loop. Pushed hard by Coelho, the pair pulled clear of Hagberg but on lap 6 they clashed as Coelho tried a pass. With Volker taking a long time to find his composure as Coelho waited for the Yokomo driver to resume the lead they were quickly swallowed up by most of the grid. With Christopher Krapp, now running 2nd, struggling with a damaged car after he was collected by Volker in the warm-up, Hagberg could control the race for an easy 4-second win. Krapp would come under pressure from Awesomatix’s Freddy Südhoff, with Marc Rheinard joining the battle for a brief time before the Infinity driver outbraked himself trying a pass for second, but the Yokomo driver held on for 2nd. Hagberg wins A2 as Coelho & Volker clash Posted: 15 Apr 2018 05:27 AM PDT Alexander Hagberg has won the second A-Main at the ETS in Spain, the Xray driver the benefactor of A1 winner Bruno Coelho clashing with Ronald Volker as the latter led the race. Having not looked like a contender for the win until the final qualifier, Hagberg, who benefited from a bad start from Volker in A1 to get second said, ‘Obviously I got a bit lucky there was some commotion in front of me but my car was very good’. He continued, ‘I already had a gap on the guys behind me so the rest of the race was easy as I didn’t have to fight with anyone. I will try to repeat it in the next one’. Given a stop and go penalty for his incident with Volker, Coelho said, ‘I got on two wheels after I touched the curb and Ronald was able to go by. After that I was behind trying to overtake and when he opened the door I went for a pass but he closed the door and we touched. It was my fault we touched so I waited but he had some glitch in his head and kept full throttle and (his car) was just spinning and spinning on the track. We could have finished 2nd & 3rd if he just had went smooth. After we continued I got a stop & go and the race was done’. Giving his account of the incident, Volker first explained his crash with Krapp. ‘I just didn’t see the car and collided with Chrissy on the front straight. It was low speed but there was still damage to both cars. My steering was not 100% straight after it’. He continued, ‘after my bad start in A1 I started off my safe and when Bruno made a mistake on the first lap I went through but I was struggling because my car was not going straight but we were still pulling away from Hagberg. I was just a very dumb move from Bruno, we had plenty of time’. Clearly frustrated with his rival, he said, ‘that move ended my race for the win or even the podium. I really can’t believe he can’t drive smarter. There is no doubt about his skills but he needs to get that shit together’. Having managed a P3 in the first A-main despite forgetting to tighten his top deck screws, Krapp was counting his good luck once again after A2. The former ETS race winner said, ‘this time the top deck was broken after the crash from Ronald in the warm-up. I had no chance to follow Hagberg because the car was tweaked but I somehow survived the race and came out with a 2nd’. Have one of his most competitive ETS weekends for a number of seasons despite his troubles in the finals, he said, ‘I hope I have a fresh car for the last one so I can really fight for position and make the podium’. In Pro Stock and Formula, A2 produced repeat winners with Max Mächler and Olivier Bultynck making it 2 out 2 to wrap up the overall victories at the Asoger track. Top Qualifier, Mächler took his Awesomatix to the A2 win ahead of Bultynck and Ratheisky as he had done in A1 to claim his first overall victory of Season #11. In Formula, Team Shepherd’s Bultynck claimed his second overall win of the season winning A2 ahead of the battling Jitse Miedema and Ivan de La Calle. In Masters, Beni Stutz, who got a stop & go in A1, took the win ahead of Top Qualifier Thomas Oehler meaning the overall win will be decided in A3. View complete event results here. Posted: 15 Apr 2018 03:26 AM PDT Bruno Coelho took and easy win in the opening A-Main of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in Spain this morning, the Top Qualifier taking full advantage of the 2nd place battle between Alexander Hagberg and Ronald Volker. Off the start Volker’s Yokomo would get loose from 2nd on the grid allowing 3rd position starter Hagberg to slip through to second at the first corner. While Volker would put the Xray driver under pressure looking to take back the position he couldn’t and in the second half the race the pair were evenly matched with Hagberg leading Volker to the finish line but that wasn’t how they would finish. Just metres from the loop, Volker’s car would stop with an electric problem leaving the World Champion as a non-finisher. The main benefactor would be his team-mate Christopher Krapp would would complete the Top 3 having held off Freddy Südhoff. Coelho confirmed Top Qualifier as Hagberg takes final qualifier Posted: 14 Apr 2018 11:41 AM PDT Bruno Coelho is the Top Qualifier for the first outdoor race of this season’s Yokomo Euro Touring Series, the fourth & final qualifier in Spain just a formality in confirming what was already decided in Q3. With drivers reduced to just two sets of tyres for qualifying this weekend, it effectively meant each driver had two chances with Coelho delivering TQ runs on both his attempts and Ronald Volker only get a TQ and a P2 from his new tyre runs. Q4 did however throw up one big surprise as Alexander Hagberg took advantage of holding out on running his second set of tyres to post a TQ run ahead of Coelho, who was on used tyres, and jump from the back of the A-Main grid to third behind behind his Xray team-mate and Volker while demoting Christopher Krapp to fourth. Freddy Südhoff will complete the top half of the grid while, having come into the weekend sharing the points lead with Coelho, Marc Rheinard is going to have his work cut out for himself to get a good result from 8th on the grid.
