Danish Electric Off-road Champs Rd3 – Report Posted: 05 Jun 2018 08:49 AM PDT Round 3 of the Danish Electric Off-road Championship was held at the RC Kongen outdoor track last weekend. The track was laid out with both old and new carpet, making setup a bit difficult. The track is also the home track of the Douglas and Kaerup families and both showed instant speed during the practice rounds. In the 2WD class Jesper Rasmussen set the pace in Q1 in front of Frederik Hovgaard. Jesper and Frederik upped their speed in every round of qualifying with Jesper holding the upper hand. Behind the two the battle for 3rd was closed between Lasse Bak and Marcus Kærup. Just behind the top 4 it was on-road driver Mike Hansen as Jonas Kærup was showing great speed but some electronic problem in every round stopped him to make full five minute runs. In A1 Jesper Rasmussen started from pole and already made a big gap on the first lap when Frederik was trying to holding back Lasse and Marcus who were trying to get by. Jesper was stretching the lead and Frederik got a small two second gap down to the battle for third between Marcus and Lasse. Ultimately Jesper took A1 with a 9-seconds margin on Frederik and Lasse. A2 Jesper again got a good start and Frederik came close to him but the latter got passed by Lasse on the first lap. What followed was a crazy 5-minute battle for the 2nd place between Lasse, Frederik and Marcus. Up front Jesper took it slow to bring home the win and with it the overall while Lasse came in 2nd in A2. Jesper was sitting out A3 and so the fight for the runner-up spot was on between Marcus, Lasse and Frederik. The latter took the lead after the start with Marcus and Lasse behind and was stretching the lead constantly. Christoffer Henriksen stormed to a 3rd place but hat to stock due to transmission problems. Marcus also ran into trouble following some mistakes as Lasse and Mike came in 2nd and 3rd. Ultimately it was Frederik with the win from Lasse and Mike meaning Frederik would grab the runner-up spot from Lasse in 3rd. 2WD Buggy top 5 results: The 4WD qualifying was close if looking on one lap but it was hard to drive and push hard over the whole five minutes. Jesper Rasmussen took Q1 and Q2 for the overall but losing power in Q3 meant Marcus was taking the last round to line up in 2nd for finals behind Jesper. For the finals Jesper lined up on pole in front of Marcus and Frederik and in A1 the TQ holder would lead for about two minutes until he hit a pipe and lost the lead to Frederik. The two then had a nice battle for the lead that was decided when Frederik got a little bit wide on the corner jump so Jesper went inside to take lead again, taking the win in A1 in front of Frederik and Lasse. In A2 Jesper was building a fine gap between him and Frederik who was battling with Marcus until Rasmussen went flying after hitting an overlapping piece of carpet, losing the lead to Frederik and Marcus. In the closing stages Jesper was able to get past Marcus but the time was running out and so Frederik took the win from a storming Jesper in 2nd meaning the decision for the overall win would be made in A3. In the final leg Jesper was pushing 100 percent right from the start while behind him Lasse moved to 2nd in front of Marcus while a mishap of Frederik send him almost dead last. Later Marcus came back to and while up front Jesper was pushing hard. Further down the field Frederik moved up to 4th again and eventually took P3 following a mistake of Lasse. In the end Jesper would bring home the win and with the the overall from Frderik 2nd and Marcus 3rd. 4WD Buggy top 5 results: The Truck class qualifiers saw a close battle between local Kim Boelslund and Ulrich Rasmussen with newcomer Søren Hempel splitting the two after the qualifiers. In the finals Kim was pushing hard to get past Ulrich and in the end it would work out as Kim took win in A1 and A2 for the overall as the decision for the runner-up spot was made in A3 when Søren took the win, leaving Ulrich Rasmussen behind in 3rd place. Truck top 5 result: Thanks to Jesper Rasmussen for the report. Images: Jens Otto Frederiksen |
BRCA Clubmans Series Rd3 – Report Posted: 05 Jun 2018 07:53 AM PDT Round 3 of the BRCA Clubmans Series took place at Aldershot Model Car Club. All of the Championship leaders and contenders were present for what was to be a sun drenched meeting for the whole weekend. Saturday saw a packed pit area with most of the competitors arriving for that all important practice on one of the Souths best tracks, with its infamous chicane onto the very long straight which leads into a banked sweeper – if taken incorrectly this could easily see you taking a trip into the scenery – then to the fast infield section to complete the lap. As it was dry weekend Sweep 34 control tyres would be used for the TC classes and Sweep SW control tyres also for the Formula class. In 13.5 Open and with many of the country’s fastest 13.5 drivers competing it would be a close qualifying session. Glenn Westwood took the first round win from Ollie Payne and 3rd was championship leader Ashley Wiffen. Round 2 and another win for Glenn and one of the busiest drivers of the weekend racing two classes Andy Murray was 2nd followed by Jay Westwood making up for a bad run in round 1. Round 3 and Ollie took the win from Jay with Aaron Rose taking 3rd. The last round and Ollie topped the time sheets again, Chris Lovely taking 2nd and another 3rd place for Aaron. So Glenn Westwood would line up on pole for the A-final being joint on points with Ollie Payne but taking the win with his fastest time a mere 0.50 on his quickest run. Jay Westwood rounded out the top 3 so everyone was in for some great finals. With some quick laps in the opening stage of leg 1 Ollie took the lead from Glenn which he built on throughout the final to take the win. Aaron made the most of Jay’s misfortune as he had to retire after lap seven which promoted Aaron to 3rd. With a win in leg 1 Ollie was all set to fight it out with Glenn again to try and take the overall win, but with the Westwood brothers putting in some very quick laps and Ollie having trouble on lap 16 dropping back to 5th this was not to be. Jay took the win in the final race of the day from Glenn with Aaron taking another 3rd place. Overall it was Glenn Westwood from Ollie Payne 2nd and Aaron Rose 3rd. 17.5 Blinky was first up and the biggest of the three classes this weekend with 43 drivers. Current championship leader Billy Fletcher was back to Aldershot this year after having to leave early last year for the birth of his son Frankie, so he had a few things to prove. It didn’t all go his way, even though he smashed the track record by six seconds in qualifying he would line up P3 behind Darren Tickner P2 who was joint on points with Richard Palmer P1. Pole sitter Richard had some misfortune throughout leg 1 and it was Billy who moved past Darren to take over the lead mid-way and pulled out a slight lead over Darren to take the win, with Ross Dilanda taking 3rd place. This set us up for an exciting Leg 2 which could still see anyone take the win. After turning in some consistently quick laps Billy moved past Darren and Richard to take the lead again in leg 2 and near to the end of the race had pulled out a lead of seven seconds but on the penultimate lap had a moment and had to drive along the grass but got back on track to take the win from Darren and Jak Sansom took a well deserved 3rd from 8th on the grid. Overall Billy Fletcher would take the day’s win from Darren Tickner and Jak Sanson. In Formula Ben Cosgrove was back for round 3 after missing the previous meeting so Stephen Lander the Championship leader would have another driver to give him a run for his money coupled with Andy Murray who had also decided to join in the Formula fun so we had a very competitive line up for this round along with a the usual very quick F1 drivers also in attendance. Ben Cosgrove and Andy Murray took it in turns throughout qualifying with hardly anything between to two drivers swapping fastest times each round and both had to wins a piece. Ben took the P1 position from Andy and also a new track record. James Wright took P3 for the final after having a great run in the 3rd round of qualifying. Ben kept his cool for leg 1 and had a flag to flag finish. But it was Luke Lee who was on a charge through the pack to come home in 2nd place from 7th on the grid. Andy took 3rd with the top 3 separated by 1.5 seconds. With his leg 1 win Ben was favourite for the win from pole position and the rest of the podium was still up for grabs. Andy had to retire after lap 15 after a few previous incidents which moved James into 2nd place where he finished behind Ben and Luke again up to 3rd place from 7th on the grid. Overall it was Ben from Luke and Stephen. For Round 4 drivers heads off to Bedworth in July. The Club has new track location and they have pulled out all the stops to create a new track layout for the racers. Source: BRCA [brca.org] |

Posted: 05 Jun 2018 05:40 AM PDT Last weekend the first round of the Pro Stock Series was held at the WMC-Wiesbaden track. The track, that will also host the Pro-Stock-Series final later this year, saw exciting and fair races under beautiful weather conditions. Saturday’s practice showed that there was no favourite in both classes and as expected, the qualification was close. In the 1/8th class Michael Kosok took the TQ ahead of Wolfgang Hederich and Rudi Hofsäß while in 1/10th 200mm Touring it was Alexander Kien with the pole position ahead of Marcus May and David Ranft. In the 1/8th class main final Rudi was able to take the lead thanks to the fast tyre change of Shepherd boss Patrick Schäfer. However, a collision with a back-marker damaged his clutch and he had to give up the race while leading. The race was won by Michael Fuhrmann in front of Michael Kosok and Norbert Hügel. The start of the 1/10th final was clean. Alexander Kien had to defend himself from the start against fast Marcus May, who could increase his pace to the final again. In 3rd and 4th experienced racers David Ranft and Nils Heimlich followed hot on the heels of the leading duo. Eventually Marcus managed to slip past Alexander, who opened the door just for a moment. While Alexander failed after an accident a few laps later with a broken tyre, Marcus was able to expand his lead and never looked back. The 2nd place went to David Ranft who had a solid race with no problems, except for an engine stall during refuelling. 3rd place went to rookie Nils Heimlich as a reward for a flawless race. In the competitive 13.5T stock class it was Jakub Klapacz with the TQ from Krystian Kopacki and Arkadiusz Smyk, however the finals were not run after the organisers had to call it a day following torrential rain. This meant the qualifying results were taken as the overall ranking with Jakub taking the win from Krystian and Arkadiusz. Source: HRC Distribution [hrcdistribution.com] |
KO Propo show prototype laydown trigger system Posted: 05 Jun 2018 04:12 AM PDT During the recent Reedy International Touring Car Race of Champions KO Propo have shown their new prototype laydown trigger system for their range of competition pistol grip radios. Using a more natural motion of the finger allows for constant contact of the finger with the trigger, improving the feeling of throttle and brake as there are no gaps between the finger and trigger/brake lever. The entire trigger assembly is movable forward and back to accommodate hand size for the grip and the finger guard, that looks like a brake lever for the trigger, can also be shimmed to fit different size fingers and tilted for added comfort. The whole assembly is still a prototype and is now being tested for durability with an excepted release date being sometime next year. Source: KO Propo [kopropo.com] |
