Bayer & Bidovsky take Rd4 in the Czech Republic Posted: 04 Sep 2018 07:22 AM PDT The 4th round of 1/8 Czech Nationals took place last weekend in Skripov. The track is known for its bumpy, technical layout with some unique features (and it always rains there). This year Nationals weren’t any exception and Friday open practice was very soon cut short because of rain. On Saturday morning racers arrived to a flooded track and everybody thought the race was done, but the organisers decided we shall carry on. Qualifications were mainly decided by Q1 as some drivers decided to skip it while others went for it. In 1/8IC buggy Jiri Mara benefited from that and took the overall TQ. Behind him, local star Ales Bidovsky finished 2nd followed by the Xray trio of Martin Bayer, Kaja Novotny and Max Gotzl rounded out the top 5. In the final Martin Bayer, starting 4th, got quickly up to front and pulled away to take his 3rd win in the series. Max Gotzl crossed the line 2nd and Ales Bidovsky completed the podium with a struggling Novotny in 4th. 1/8 IC Buggy Results In 1/8E Buggy, Kaja took Q1, but Ales Bidovsky shined in Q2 and Q3 to take the overall TQ. In finals Ales continued his dominance and took A1 and A2. A3 decided the remaining podium spots with Kaja taking 2nd overall and Max 3rd. 1/8 E Buggy Results Source: Xray [teamxray.com] |

Weighing in at around 19g, the set is 50% lighter than the kit’s standard steel screws. The titanium screws included in the set are for the lower chassis plate where strength is most important with the aluminium screws intended for use where low centre of gravity and the lightest possible weight is advantageous. In addition, the aluminium screws optimise the chassis balance and flexibility. The screw set is offered in two colour options with the aluminium screws available in black or red. BRCA Clubman’s Championship Rd6 – Report Posted: 04 Sep 2018 05:33 AM PDT Last weekend saw the BRCA Clubman’s Championship headed to the Midlands for Round 6 at Stafford RCMCC. Not the biggest of tracks on the Racing calendar but a real favourite of the Clubman’s racers as it’s quite challenging and when you get it right you are greatly rewarded. There was a near full entry for race day and there were also 60 plus drivers practicing on Saturday, this shows that this series is so popular as we only had two rounds of the championship remaining. For practice day we had seven timed runs for all classes in heat order, so plenty of opportunity to adjust to track conditions. The usual three classes were running, 17.5 Blinky, 13.5 Open and Formula One. Sunday race day and four round by round qualifying runs was the order of the day after controlled practice in heat order. The track had been swept and prepped with a mix of sugar water for both days so the grip was there straight away for every competitor. Qualifying was run through and we had cool temperatures to start with in the morning and sun all day so perfect conditions. After the 10 finals were sorted we went straight into the two Leg Finals. Ollie Payne was on pole for the highly competitive 13.5 Open A-final. He could wrap up championship if he won the two finals and after taking TQ in the first two rounds of qualifying he was on course to do just that. Liam Brooks was P2 after having a 2nd and 1st in round and Ben Moorey lined up P3 having two 2nd places. So we’re we’re all set for some very close racing in the finals. Leg 1 had a mixture of ups and downs for a lot of the drivers but Ollie never looked back and took the win in style also getting the extra lap in to stamp his authority on the leg 1 win. Aaron Rose had a stormer of a race to take second from P6 on the grid making the most of the traffic but had an amazing race with Liam Brooks who recovered to third after some mid race incidents with back markers and the pair crossed the line almost side by side. Leg 2 Ollie, Liam and Ben Moorey lead the field away from their respective grid positions and kept station for pretty much all of the race with the rest of the top half following in a train behind. We saw immense pressure put on Ollie by Liam for the whole race, Ollie have to defend at every turn against the very fast chasing Liam with Ben always there waiting for the two to make a mistake. At the end Ollie and Liam pulled out a slight lead on Ben with a last dash to the line with them being separated by 1/10 of a second and Ben took a fine third place 3 seconds after. A great final to watch which saw Ollie wrap up the 13.5 Open Championship to become the 2018 BRCA Champion. Overall positions after the 2 Leg Finals: In the 17.5 Blinky class Dominic Carter was trying this very competitive and biggest class of the Clubman’s for the first time. He was the fastest driver all weekend and it would be a brave person to bet against him. He took the P1 position with 3 TQ runs. Darren Tickner with a 1st and 3rd in round sat on P2 with Dani Young on P3 joint on points with Darren and having her best ever Clubman’s qualifying session. Leg 1 Dominic lead the field away with a very close fast chasing pack behind him. Dani was the only driver who saved a new set of tyres for her final and had a great battle with Darren, but a coming together saw Dani have to wait and Gareth got through to 2nd which Dani retook meanwhile Dominic had checked out and crossed the line to take the win, Dani came home 2nd with Gareth a few car lengths behind in 3rd. Leg 2 saw Dominic and Darren both have clean starts and pull away from the pack while the rest of the field constantly swapped places. Chris Parrot meanwhile made the most of this and moved up into 3rd place. Dani made the best of a bad start and followed Chris for the remainder of the race putting pressure on him every lap but Chris took 3rd with Darren taking 2nd a few seconds behind the winner Dominic. Overall positions after the 2 Leg Finals: The Formula One pole position was secured with Luke Lee taking 3 TQ runs in the first three rounds of qualifying so he sat out of round four to save his tyres for the final. P2 went to Stephen Lander taking TQ in round four to add to his two 2nd places. P3 was James Wright to round out the top three. Leg 1 and a great start from pole sitter Luke Lee but an unfortunate incident on lap 7 saw him hand the lead to Stephen who was waiting for an opportunity as was James Wright who took up second place and followed Stephen for the rest of the race with James Greener always in touch. This was the order they finished in with a well deserved win for Stephen who’s car looked really hooked up. Leg 2 saw the pole sitter retire before the start. This gave everyone an opportunity to steel some valuable points, but with a change of track conditions as the track cooled the times showed the cars being slower, so a well balanced setup was required and it was Stephen had this and he edged out nearly a quarter of a lap lead over James Wright and the hard charging Andy Murray from P5 on the grid. This was the order they finished in and another well deserved win for Stephen. Overall positions after the 2 Leg Finals: The final Round of the Clubman’s Championship will be held at the Cotswold Model Car Club on the 23rd of September. This is the biggest track on the Clubman’s race calendar so will test everyone to their limits. Source: BRCA [brca.org] |
Daniel Kobbevik wraps up Norwegian National titles Posted: 03 Sep 2018 12:53 PM PDT The final race of the Norwegian EP Buggy nationals was held at Hverven Raceway in Oslo on astro turf. The track was rebuilt for this race, so everybody came to a new track and so nobody had home track advantage. This part of the year is naturally slippery in the morning with more grip during the day, and a little less grip in afternoon. There was only a little free practice in morning, and then right into reseeding, to get it as fair as it could be for this championship. Daniel Kobbevik was much faster than the competition with his Xray XB2. This weekend it was especially one driver that stood out from the rest and it was Yokomo driver Eirik Andreassen. He had really good pace and was second fastest on lap times, so it was more about who was going to start from third to 10 in A-main. After reseeding it was Daniel that topped all those rounds, and it looked the same after quails was done. 4 rounds with TQ. So after quals was done top 3 was: Then ready for finals, and Daniel just took off and left the rest off the field, drove his own race and made sure nobody could get close, and after lapping the field it was just to get the car to the finish line, and secure the win. It was pretty much same in all three finals. Daniel took the win in all finals and the fight was really about second and third. First final Yokomo driver Eirik had good control and took easy second place. Second main, Eirik and Mathias Fink was fighting close from the start to the end, and Mathias was in second for a while, but Eirik overtook the place, but then again got stuck in another car, and then Mathias could pass on inside, and then it was difficult for Eirik to get back in second, but was close. In third main it was fight about second and third between Eirik and Mathias again, and Mathias was trying to get by several times, but Eirik did no mistakes and kept the second place to finish line. So result list after all finals done 2wd Winner of B-main was Team Associated Driver Andreas Sandgrind Since this was the last race off the year, it was also time to give out prizes for top 3 in the Norwegian Nats Championship for 2018. Top 3 this season was the strong trio that have been dominating the races this summer. 1. Daniel Kobbevik – Team Xray/Hobbywing/EZpower Then over to 4wd, and now Daniel really showed his pace and after Reseeding he was close to 6 seconds faster than nr.2 on three consecutive laps… And it looked like it was just mechanic problems that could stop him from taking the second title this weekend. Daniel took TQ in all 4 rounds of quals, and top 3 was: Daniel Kobbevik, second it was again Erik Andreassen, third was Mathias Fink, but on the same points as Nikolay Håheim and Dan Terje Bjørnflaten, he had really taken up the speed and from driving C-main in 2wd he was now showing speed to get into A-main in 4wd! After quals was done top 3 was again the same list as in 2wd: Daniel Kobbevik starting from pole, Erik Andreassen starting second and Mathias Fink from third. First final Daniel won easy, second place was Mathias and third Øystein. Second final Daniel won with almost same margin again, but this time Roy Gemble took second place and Eirik Andreassen took third. Last A-main, Daniel taking the victory again and this time Eirik got second and Dan Terje took third. So it was so many drivers on different points, but it ended with Daniel winning, Eirik second with a 2 and 3.place, Mathias third, with scoring 2 and fifth place. Øystein Døler on same points but with a 3 and 4 as counting… Top Ten 4wd Winner of B-main was Xray Driver Adrian Søgnestad Then again it was time for top3 in 4wd in National Nats Cup and again it was the trio that has been the fastest this season. 1. Daniel Kobbevik – Xray/Hobbywing/EZpower Thanks to Magne Kobbevik for the report. |
