Bruno Coelho wins Cup of Portugal Posted: 09 Oct 2018 08:12 AM PDT The annual Cup of Portugal took place at CRB with 22 drivers in attendance. As a special guest, Xray’s Bruno Coelho made an appearance with the World Champion taking the opportunity to race on home soil. As expected Bruno showed a blistering pace with newly-crowned national champion, Serpent’s Hugo Miguel coming in 2nd and Mario Miranda following in 3rd. The start of the opening A-main was smooth, however a couple of corner later Hugo made a pass on Bruno with the latter trying to regain the position later which resulted in a crash of both. After loosing a lot of time the two tried to recover with Bruno ultimately bringing home the A1 win as Hugo had to settle for 3rd. A2 was a less stressful affair as Bruno brought home the win on new tyres easily, taking the overall with one leg to spare as Hugo came in 2nd this time. To not disturb the fight for the remaining podium spots Bruno wanted to sit out A3 but the other drivers asked him to take part anyway. Following a clean start Bruno later had a bobble over a curb, making way for Hugo Miguel. The now-leader drove his heart off but Bruno closed the gap in the closing stages and tried to find a way past, however holding tight lines Hugo was able to bring home the win and with it the overall runner-up spot from Nuno Duraes (Mugen) in 3rd. Thanks to Hugo Miguel for the report. |
Ty Tessmann wins at US Open Championship Posted: 09 Oct 2018 07:57 AM PDT The 2018 US Open Championship was held at Sun City RC Raceway in Canutillo, Texas on an old school, loamy dirt track. It was packed well and smooth and the shape of the track was a little different from the usual as it was 180 x 180 which made the back lanes far away and a little challenging to get through because of the distance. In the Nitro Buggy class and after the semifinals it was Mugen’s Ryan Maifield with the pole position for the main final from Ty Tessmann (Xray) 2nd and Cole Ogden (HB Racin) 3rd. The main was 60 minutes, so to would be good practice for the worlds. As the main started Ty was feeling pressure from Cole while trying to stay with Maifield and Tessmann started to push a little bit too hard and was hitting ruts that he shouldn’t have been. Cole would get by him, but then Ty settled down and just drove clean lines and slowly caught up to Cole again and passed him, then Maifield made a big mistake and Tesmann got by him and he would continue to create a bigger gap throughout the race and was able to hold onto the lead for the remainder of the race for the win in front of Cole Ogden and Ryan Maifield. Buri-Racer tease new E2.1 & E1.3 kits Posted: 09 Oct 2018 05:19 AM PDT Austrian company Buri-Racer, spearhead of the growing 1/8th electric on-road stock class, has released first images of their forthcoming E2.1 and E1.3 kits. Starting with the E2.1, the car offers a new layout and several updates compared to the previous E1.2. Basically a full redesign the car utilises a new centre belt layout with the motor siting in a new location, mounted to a separate motor mount that makes for a more central motor position. Also new are the rear pod side plates that allow for a wider range of ride height settings compared to the E1.2. The system works without shims and it’s patent pending. Also new is the front end with three different ride height settings and quick camber adjustment feature. As for the E1.3 kit adapts the same quick ride height options as the E2.1 with the motor sitting in the traditional off-set position and with the motor shaft pointing towards the right side. Both kits seem to be usable with both standard and shorty packs from stock with a wide range of battery positions accessible thanks to long machined slots in the upper chassis plate. Full information and more images are expected in time for the release. Source: Buri-Racer [buri-racer.at] |

2018/19 Rug Racers Rd1 – Report Posted: 09 Oct 2018 02:34 AM PDT The opening round of the 2018/19 Rug Racers series was held last weekend. The new series returned with a few changes made to the track in an effort to help with the racing and limit the number of car breakages. The 13.5 Blinky Touring win was taken by long serving Ashley Wiffen. Ashley was being pushed hard by Jamie Hickin but was able to hold him off for the overall A-final win from Jamie Hickin in 2nd and Shaun Batt in 3rd. 17.5 Blinky Touring was a bigger field with very close racing through out. Billy Fletcher was able to take the A-final win ahead of Vasily Simonov who would take one leg of the finals. Dani Young would round out the top 3. GT12 has long been part of RugRacers, with Owen Smith getting his title defence underway with FTQ and wins in both finals to take the overall A-final win from Mark Parnell and Jason Docker. The Tamiya Trucks returned with their air of fun breezing through the door with them. After some usual rubbing racing Alex Carter managed to come out on top to take the A-final win from Lance Walker and Kevin Fenn. M-Rage Mini TCs have been added this year and they were the first class on the track. What a fun little class they seem to be, Mark Young taking the A-final win with Joseph Moore and Ian Smith in tow. The series returns for round 2 on the 4th of November.
