Lovan Winter Series Rd1 – Report Posted: 20 Nov 2018 06:55 AM PST The opening round of the Lovan Winter Series was held in Alveringem, Belgium close to the French border last weekend. The race was held on a large 35x18m track and attracted racers from The Netherlands, France and Belgium. In the premier Touring Modified class it was John Ermen who showed some superb driving, however Hugo Raggaut was another driver who was fast from the get go. John dominated the opening qualifier on Saturday evening and he also took the three following rounds on Sunday morning, however he tried different tyres for the final qualifier that were not on point but was Hugo who scored a new lap and track record to take the overall TQ from John in 2nd and Sidney Blokker 3rd. In the finals John did everything he could to get past Hugo but the latter perfectly resisted the pressure to take the overall from John in 2nd and Sidney in 3rd. In the Stock class, that attracted 32 drivers, it was last year’s challenge champion Tom Adams along with Basile Concialdi and Ian Bekaert who all scored 19-laps runs. Basile later also clocked a 20-laps run and Christophe Loget put himself on the 2 spot on the grid courtesy of a great run as Tom came in 3rd after the qualifiers. In the finals Basile took the lead and never looked back. Eric Sauterau came in 2nd followed by Tom Adams and Stefan Romans. Special mention goes to young Enzo Rousselin who scored a fantastic 9th place overall. The Formula class saw close racing in the qualifiers between Kris Vanbleu and Jannick Rommens. The first two rounds went to Kris, but the last two rounds were won by Jannick, handing him the TQ. In the finals though Jannick wasn’t able to match his qualifying performance, allowing Kris to take the win in two of the three finals. Jannick came in 2nd in front of Ingo Wrissenberg while Steve Heyman had to settle for 4th. In the 1/12th scale class it was Olivier Pierrat with the only 20-laps run in front of Frederick Carton and Ian Bekaert, followed by Kris Vanbleu and Olivier Cornard. In the finals Olivier made the best out of his top spot, as did the others and in the end it was Olivier Pierrot with the overall in front of Frederick and Ian. In the 1/12th GT class, that attracted many first time racers, but it was Olivier Cornard with the TQ from Peter Roeygens and Lorenzo Desloovere. Olivier then dominated the mains, winning all three finals for the overall from Peter Roeygens, Lorenzo Desloovere, Kenny van den Briele, Cedric Verhulst and Pieter Grillet. Thanks to Lorenzo Vandepoele for the report. The post Lovan Winter Series Rd1 – Report appeared first on Red RC - RC Car News. |

BRCA 1/12th scale Nationals Rd2 – Report Posted: 20 Nov 2018 02:09 AM PST The second round of the 2018/19 BRCA 1/12th nationals took place in Birtley last weekend. The event saw a continuation of the increased entry from the first round with 70 drivers attending the event. The Birtley club laid a fast and flowing track which developed a high grip level throughout the weekend requiring a fast and consistent drive to achieve a good result. On Saturday racers competed in the 13.5 Blinky Stock championship with the field split into F1, F2 and F3 grades. In the F1 class current European Stock champion Ollie Payne put his car on pole ahead of defending British Champion David Spashett and a fast charging Adam Catchpole in 3rd. Ollie was to take a tone to tone win gaining a small advantage early on and maintaining this throughout the race. The front two cars had a relentless pace and lapped the whole field. Adam Catchpole unfortunately caught a track marker early on and had to retire his car allowing Mark Stiles to secure 3rd place from 5th on the grid. F1 Stock result: In F2 Andrew Smith took pole by 8 tenths of a second from Josh Coult after a day long battle in qualifying. Rob Jackson completed the top three. In the final Andrew had the measure of Josh and pulled away in the opening laps driving cleanly for the eight minutes to take the win. Josh brought his car home in second ahead of Rob Jackson. F2 Stock result: In F3 Gareth Hollis took TQ from Paul Frewin and Martin Harris. Gareth took a commanding victory lapping the field with Paul and Martin finishing in qualifying order. F3 Stock result: On Sunday the field was split into Modified and Sports classes. The Sports class again running 13.5 blinky motors. In Modified round 1 winner Ollie Payne was again the driver to beat putting his car on pole ahead of Mark Stiles and Adam Catchpole. Ollie would build a lead at the start of the final while Mark had to defend from a hard charging Adam Catchpole. After a few minutes Adam began to fall back from Mark who set about chasing down Ollie whose car had also lost some pace. Mark managed to close down Ollie and we were treated to a great show of driving with the two cars lapping inches apart at very high speed. A lunge for the line resulted in contact between the two drivers with Mark being deemed to have impeded Ollie and being given a time penalty giving Ollie his second win of the championship. Adam completed the top three with a welcome return to form. Modified result: In the highly competitive Sports class round 1 winner Ben Vincent again put his car on TQ from Mick Farrell and Niall Cochran with the top three drivers separated by only three seconds. Ben pulled away early on and took a commanding victory with a superb drive. The battle royale was for second place between Mick and Niall with the two drivers lapping nose to tail for most of the race before an unfortunate incident while passing a back marker would see Niall drop back. This allowed Gavin Clinch to capitalise and complete the podium after a stunning drive from 10th on the grid. Sports result: The next round of the championship takes place at Tamworth in December. Mugen MBX8 -3 Ackermann plates & +15mm wing mount Posted: 20 Nov 2018 01:49 AM PST Mugen have introduced two new option parts for the MBX8 line of buggies in the form of the -3 front upright Ackermann plates and the +15mm rear wing mount. Starting with the Ackermann plates, the items move the steering rod ball stud location 3mm towards the outside compared to the kit standard arms, which results in improved initial steering response and improved stability coming out of corners. The parts are machined from high-quality carbon fibre. Also new is the +15mm rear wing stay that can be used to further raise the rear wing for improved rear traction. While this can create additional rear chassis roll in corners, the longer wing stay allows to mount the whole assembly in a lower position compared to the stock part, while keeping the kit standard wing height, which results in a reduced overall centre of gravity and thus reduced chassis roll as the wing stay’s bulky part, that attaches to the shock tower, rests in a lower position as do the wing stay mounting screws. In addition to the height adjustment feature the wing can also be placed in a 6mm forward position, giving even greater wing positioning freedom.
