Introduced in 1969, the Chevrolet Blazer was General Motors’ two-door entry into the booming sport utility market. Traxxas donors the rich history of the Blazer with this beautifully detailed reproduction of the 1979 K5 Blazer built on the proven TRX-4 chassis. SARDA National EP Off-road Champs Rd1 – Report Posted: 06 Mar 2019 05:04 AM PST The opening round of the South African SARDA National Electric Off-road Championship was held at the Viking Raceway in Tzaneen, South Africa. The under cover carpet track set the challenge once again not making it easy for any of the racers, the high temperatures with high humidity made it even tougher than usual, none the less all the drivers took on the challenge and the best came out on top. In the 2WD and 4WD Mod Buggy classes it was Charles Hollander with the overall TQ while the Stadium, Stock Buggy and 2WD SCT classes were TQ’d by Wickus Coetzer. In the 2WD Modified A-main things then went Rikus Jansen Van Vuuren’s way who took the overall win from top qualifier Charles Hollander as Gerrit Gouws rounded out the top 3. In 4WD Modified it was again Rikus Jansen Van Vuuren who would prevail to leave TQ Charles Hollander behind. Jaco Van Eeden completed the top 3 result. The 2WD Stock A-Main saw Wikus Coetzer conserving his qualifying performance to take the win in front of Kevin Rousseau and Waldo Jansen Van Vuuren. The 4WD Stock A-main also had Wikus Coetzer taking the overall as Anton Nothnagel and John Fitzsimmons came in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Stadium Trucks was another class won by Wikus Coetzer with Riaan Truscott and Pieter Swemmer coming in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Finally in 2WD Short Course Truck Wikus Coetzer took win number four this weekend, leaving Wickus Van Den Berg in 2nd and Kevin Rousseau in 3rd respectively. Thanks to Darryn Hill for the report. Kay Frehner doubles at Scamora Arena finale Posted: 06 Mar 2019 03:36 AM PST The final race of this winter at Switzerland’s Scamora Arena was held last weekend. In 2WD Buggy it was Xray’s Kay Frehner with the win from Markus Streuli (Xray) in 2nd. Yokomo’s Fabian Luca Widmer came in 3rd to round out the top 3. Over in 4WD Buggy it was again Kay Frehner with the win and he would lead an all-Xray podium with Philip Jeisy and Markus Streuli rounding out the top 3 results. SXT Racing Products tire break-in bit Posted: 06 Mar 2019 01:09 AM PST SXT Racing Products’ tire break-in bit allows to sand down or smoke tires with ease. The tool is available with a 12mm hex for all 1/10 on-road, off-road and oval needs and it is also usable with 17mm hex wheels thanks to an optional adapter, allowing to work with 1/8th buggy, truggy and GT wheels. The break-in bit is just over 100mm long and made from HSS steel with a wide brass hex to keep the wheel stable and locked down with double set screws. The 17mm adapter is available separately or included with the 12mm hex brea-in bit. Simon Lauter wins at RT-Pegasus Masters Posted: 06 Mar 2019 12:51 AM PST The 8th annual RT-Pegasus Masters race was held in Piding, Germany last weekend, attracting many of the region’s fast electric on-road racers. In the competitive 13.5T Touring Stock class it was Simon Lauter with the win from Tobias Vogel on the runner-up spot. Christian Donath and Hannes Soyke would round out an all-Awesomatix top 4. Tamiya Toyota 4×4 Mountain Rider pick-up kit Posted: 06 Mar 2019 12:24 AM PST Coming in April is Tamiya‘s Toyota 4×4 Mountain Rider pick-up truck kit. It recreates the Toyota Hilux, a pick-up truck which has enjoyed enduring popularity in the U.S., Japan and beyond. The model utilises a ladder frame like that on the actual car, and is powered by a 3-speed transmission that offers 4WD (1st gear) and 2WD (2nd and 3rd gears) and allows gear changing while running. The realism doesn’t stop there, with the sturdy suspension featuring metal axle housings, leaf springs and shackles, while the rear setup is fitted with a radius rod. A metal front under guard helps the model take on tough off-road conditions. The detailed and durable injection-moulded body with roll bar is married to metal-plated wheels on 123mm diameter tires to give the model a stylish, high-lift appearance. The device allows to charge and discharge batteries with 30A using the popular X6 charger in cycle mode. The recovered discharging energy is used for charging, making the whole design more environmental-friendly with the clean setup also minimising wires for greater efficiency.
