Ronnefalk doubles at HB Racing European Race Days Posted: 09 Apr 2019 09:05 AM PDT The 2019 HB Racing European Race Days were held this past weekend at the ARCF42 track near Lyon, France. The event saw the attendance of world class drivers such as David Ronnefalk and Cole Ogden that not only competed but also gave help to racers. Other celebrities included Philippe Neidhart and Didier Boulmier as well as Nano and Jean-Marc Betticher. The track layout was amazing but very challenging even for the international drivers while the weather forecast was quite gloomy but the rain only fell on Sunday for a few minutes. In the Nitro buggy class, the race format was three 15-minute finals. The finals were a 3-horse battle between David, Cole and Hampus Berg. Cole won the opening final as David made a big mistake in the chicane and had to retire with a few minutes to go. After his DNF in A1, David was in control of things and he was able to win the last two finals and secured the overall victory. Cole came in 2nd and Hampus finished in 3rd. Over in the E-Buggy class it was Cole Ogden with the overall TQ, however after the four A-main events it was David with his second win this weekend from Cole 2nd and Hampus 3rd. CJ Jelin wins at SoCal Shootout Posted: 09 Apr 2019 02:44 AM PDT The Pro-Line track in Banning, California played host to the 2019 SoCal Shootout recently. Xray’s Kyle Turner took the TQ in the 1/8th E-Buggy class and he would battle with Kyosho’s CJ Jelin for the win, but a wrong tyre compound choice, an off-setup left and a couple of mistakes meant he had to let CJ go for the win with Kyle coming in 2nd. TLR’s Dylan Nelson came in 3rd to round out the podium. Source: Xray [teamxray.com] The post CJ Jelin wins at SoCal Shootout appeared first on Red RC - RC Car News. |

Ty Tessmann doubles at Big Barn Shootout Posted: 09 Apr 2019 02:01 AM PDT The 2019 Big Barn Shootout was held in Chilliwack, BC this past weekend. The track was very large, fast and a challenging layout. This year the event had a lot more entries which made for longer days and stiffer competition, with drivers coming from as far as Ontario and the North western United States as well as western Canada. The higher numbers made the track surface different from last year, it started out smooth and low grip, as the weekend went along the grip came up and the track started to develop some holes and ruts, which made the main events more challenging. Official practice started at 11am on Friday and went until 10pm, this was limited to five practice sessions per class entered and was regulated by punch cards. Saturday was three round of qualifying and it was Xray’s Ty Tessmann who was able to take the TQ in both classes. In the 30-minute Nitro Buggy A-main everything went smoothly for Ty who was able to take the win from Serpent driver, Abiye Birku on the runner-up spot and Carson Phipps (HB Racing) in 3rd. Up first on Sunday however was A1 of E-Buggy. Ty got a good start and was able to lead the race from start to finish. Tessmann used A2 of E-Buggy to test tyres for the nitro main one more time and was again able to take the win which gave me the overall win in E-Buggy from Team Associated driver Mason Henderson 2nd and Tekno driver Tyler Wonders in 3rd. Posted: 09 Apr 2019 01:26 AM PDT The first round of this year’s XRS Alpe Adria was held in Tolmin recently. The race was held in the three classes of Touring Modified, Touring 13.5 XRS and 1/8th Nitro On-road. The weekend kicked off with practice on Saturday with Sunday being race day with two timed rounds of practice as well as four qualifiers for the electric classes and three rounds of qualifying for IC Track. In Touring Stock it was Patrik Pozgaj with the TQ while in Touring Modified Alojzij Osvald came out fastest. 1/8 IC Track saw Nejc Mihelic taking the overall TQ after switching chassis brands during the off season. In the Touring Modified finals Alojzij Osvald was in a dominant form, winning all three finals. But it was a very close fight for the remaining podium spots with the next 3 drivers having the same points after the three finals. Ultimately 2nd place went to Rok Rudl and 3rd to Nejc Marcic, making it an all-Xray top 3. In Touring Stock it was a fight for the top spot between Patrik Pozgaj and Zeljko Selman. At the end pole sitter Patrik would win the race in front of Zeljko Selman. Darko Nemec rounded out the podium for another Xray 1-2-3. In the 1/8 IC track category it was to be a fight for the win between the Xray duo of Nejc and Jernej. Since there was a huge tire wear the organisers decided to split the main final into two 15-minute finals and sum the laps together to a avoid tyre change, since many drivers had only part time mechanics. The first final started with Nejc in front and Jernej following him closely, but later Nejc had a flame out and Jernej had a crash, but Jernej was still in front although with a damaged rear tyre. Nejc tried to close the gap but could not catch Jernej till the end. In the second final Nejc did not have any problems and was faster than Jernej who had some clutch problems and could not push a lot, but Jernej could managed the gap from the first final and eventually won the final in front of Nejc. The overall 3rd place went to Mugen racer Denis Fink. Source: Xray [teamxray.com] The post XRS Alpe Adria Rd1 – Report appeared first on Red RC - RC Car News. |
Daniel Kobbevik doubles at Norwegian EP Buggy Nats Rd1 Posted: 09 Apr 2019 12:38 AM PDT The opening round of Norwegian 1/10th Buggy Nationals was hosted by the KMBK club, located in Grimstad in the south of Norway. The track wasn’t huge but hospitality was, which made for a great weekend thanks to the professional club. The weekend kicked off with free practice on Friday and with the track layout being unchanged for some time, things would be very tight especially in the main 4WD class as most of the club’s members race in the ultra-fast wheeler category. Fast local driver Gisle Brøvig is a very strong driver and the biggest local hope for the race. On Saturday it was straight into 2WD qualifying – four rounds and best two counts. Daniel Kobbevkik took all qualify rounds by a huge margin, it was very open on podium spots behind Daniel, and nothing was settled before last A-main. Four drivers were fighting for the remaining podium spots: Adrian Sognestad had two 2nd place finished, but both Petter Berntsen and Oyvind Stusdal had one 3rd place each, and if they could take a win in last final they would push him down to 3rd. Vincent Ruger, another young and upcoming driver, was also in the mix for the podium, and he also needed a win to make it. A3 started and after just a few laps Adrian made some huge mistakes and he had to stop, so now it was up to the other guys to decide how the podium would end up. Vincent had found really good pace and was leading in front of Øyvind, who started to close in, and Petter was chasing in 3rd, but Vincent did a perfect run and could take the win, giving him 3rd overall. 2WD final results: Then it was on to 4WD on Sunday morning and the big riddle was if Gisle Brøvig could match up with Daniel’s speed. These two guys were definitely the two fastest in this class, and when the qualifying started, Gisle had a little tougher job than Daniel to do, since he had to run in a lower heat, and that can sometimes cause some extra traffic, but he did a good job and sorted things out well. Daniel won again all four rounds with good margins, and was in his own class of speed, but when finals start there is a new game starting. Gisle was going to start 2nd on the grid in the mains. So he had still the chance to hang in the game. The first A-main started and Daniel checked out right away, took a comfy win with 28 laps in front of 27 laps and Adrian 25 laps, while rest of the main was on 25 laps. A2 started the same way with Daniel pulling away and taking the win with 29 laps, Gisle with 27 laps, and this time Mathias Fink had found good speed and took 3rd with 26 laps. So again things needed to be settled in A3 about who was going to take 2nd and 3rd. Daniel decided to run A3, and this was also going to be his fastest run the whole weekend. Gisle protected his 2nd place with a good margin, but over the 3rd place it was a fight between Mathias and Adrian, but Mathias pulled away early and secured the podium, also with his fastest run of the weekend. 4WD final results: Thanks to Magne Kobbevik for the report. Team Associated FT 4-shoe adjustable clutch Posted: 09 Apr 2019 12:20 AM PDT Team Associated have introduced their new Factory Team 4-shoe clutch system for the RC8B3 series and most other 1/8th scale off-road buggies and truggies. After the 2016 1/8th scale World Championships, the AE engineers began working on an idea to make their clutch system more easily adaptable to changing track conditions. After months of prototyping and testing, they came up with a patent-pending design that gives racers the ability to adjust the tension of the clutch springs – without having to remove the clutch and change springs. In fact, the engine doesn’t even need to be removed from the chassis to make the adjustment. The adjustment is done with a single set screw that engages with a spring cam. By loosening or tightening a set screw in the flywheel, the spring cam rotates within the flywheel to adjust the tension on the springs. This means racers can make quick adjustments while in the pit lane. To make a clutch adjustment, bring the car into the pit lane, shut off the engine, make a quick adjustment to the clutch set screw that engages the spring cam, and fire the engine back up. This is especially useful when track conditions change and drivers want to tune the power band to get the most comfortable power delivery. Turning the adjustment set screw CCW reduces the spring tension and makes the clutch engage sooner, thus “softening” the power delivery. This can make the car easier to drive on lower traction tracks. Turning the adjustment set screw CW increases the spring tension and makes the clutch engage later, making the power delivery more aggressive. This can be useful on higher traction tracks. Milan Holthuis wins at Dutch IC Track Nationals Rd1 Posted: 09 Apr 2019 12:09 AM PDT Round 1 of the Dutch IC Track Nationals was held at the Baanbrekers track in Rucphen this past weekend. This year both the 1/8th and 1/10th classes will be run on the same weekend which makes for a busy Sunday for many. Also the Rucphen track will host the May round of the ENS, so many drivers used the event to get some laps under their belt. Saturday’s practice already showed that Milan Holthuis would be the guy to beat. Consistently fast he had quickly adapted to the switch of handout tyre supplier this year. Sunday qualifying would see Milan take the TQ but the gap to Julius Kolff in 2nd was under two seconds so there was room for interesting fights in the final. 3rd on the grid was for Jurmin Etnel. The gap from 4th to 8th position in qualifying was also less than a second so close racing was guaranteed. Noteworthy were the two new drivers this year. Both only 11 years old, they made the step up from the GT class and did very well. Merijn Schipper showed promise, but was held back by some engine tuning issues. Boris Kolff qualified for the A-main on his first 1/10th race and showed smooth lines all day. The A-main started and immediately Milan and Julius separated themselves from the field. Although Julius tried, he missed a tenth a lap to keep pace with Milan and needed an extra fuel stop. When Julius also hit problems with the transmission, it would turn out to be an easy tone to tone win for Milan. Jurmin drove a steady race to take the runner-up spot with Thomas van Duin taking 3rd. The next round of the nationals will be at the RACO track in Utrecht. Thanks to Julius Kolff for the report. Reflex Racing roll out new TC7.2 optionals Posted: 08 Apr 2019 11:59 PM PDT Coming from Reflex Racing are several new optionals for the Team Associated TC7.2 touring car. First up is the bumper brace kit that includes a hard, wide front bumper. The set protect the car from hard boards and collisions. Wider and thicker than the standard bumper, the bumper can save the chassis in the event of a hard crash as especially when running indoors, the car’s front suspension is far more protected than with the stock parts. Next up is the spec racing high-rotation top deck. The part was designed to achieve more clearance for larger Pinions which are used in spec racing. With this top deck there is no need to space the top deck up to run bigger than 50T pinions. Additionally the design of the top deck moves the flex point of the car towards the rear which gives more off power stability and better on-power rotation. Also new is a PCS braces set that includes 2.0mm and 3.0mm braces. These are used to tie the servo mount and motor mount together. Typically, in conditions of high bite, the PCS increases forward bite and rotation. Another new carbon fibre optionals set is the camber mount shim kit. The shims make it a breeze to adjust the camber link lengths on the TC7.2. Simply loosen the screws on the link mounts with a ball 2.0mm wrench and slide these shims in and out to adjust the upper link length. The kit comes with two pieces of each 0.5mm, 1.0mm and 2.0mm. Last but not least comes the inset battery hook that replaces the front battery hook on the TC7.2 and allows to mount the front of battery +3mm closer to the center of the car. This allows for a better weight balance of the car with heavy +300g batteries. Additionally, when running lighter batteries, it allows for more weight to be added to the right side of the car in the form of plates so as to bring the CG lower.
