Dear Cancer Grand Challenges Community,

Since announcing our nine new Cancer Grand Challenges at our Summit back in March, it feels like this last quarter has flown by.

Since then, we've received Expressions of Interest from teams around the world, and closed submissions just a couple of weeks ago on 22 June. We also launched our annual progress magazine Discover, saw key research outputs from our funded teams, introduced our new Patient Advocacy Panel, and participated in events that helped us connect with the global research community.

It has been fantastic to see the fresh thinking that can be sparked when global teams unite across disciplines to bring new perspectives to tough challenges. We're looking forward to reviewing the proposals, and announcing the shortlisted teams in September.

I hope you enjoy this round-up of news from Cancer Grand Challenges over Q2.

Sincerely,

David Scott
Director, Cancer Grand Challenges

In April, our team headed to the AACR Annual Meeting, and later the EACR 2023 Congress in June. They were both fantastic opportunities to connect with the global research community, as well as be inspired by the latest innovations in cancer research.

Highlights included Dr Monica Bertagnolli, Director of the National Cancer Institute, dropping by our booth at AACR, and hearing from our teams throughout both conferences, including Tobias Janowitz and Eileen White (CANCAN), Cath Bollard (NexTGen) and Wendy Garrett (OPTIMISTICC) at AACR, and Nuria Lopez-Bigas and Allan Balmain (PROMINENT) and Jelle Wesseling (PRECISION) at EACR.
