Our collection of London maps for history lovers

We're building up quite the archive of London history content over on Londonist: Time Machine. One common theme that's emerged since we launched the newsletter is maps. It all started when we decided to colour in the oldest known map of the capital, in the hope of bringing Tudor London more vividly to life.

Since then, we've recreated all three surviving panels of the Copperplate Map. But we haven't stopped there — we've also created maps from scratch that plot out the London locations of Sherlock Holmes, Charles Dickens, and Peter Ackroyd's seminal London: A Biography

Some of these newsletters are exclusively for paid subscribers — sign up for a free, seven-day trial to access them all. After that, subscriptions cost just £5 a month or £45 for a whole year (that's less than 90p a week), and you'll be free to peruse the full archive at your leisure.
