Reggie's bar shut down in wake of Madison Brooks' death

BY MATTHEW ALBRIGHT | Staff writer

Reggie's, the Tigerland fixture, is closed for good. In a settlement with the state Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control, its owner agreed to give up his liquor license and not open another bar in Louisiana.

The bar has been at the center of intense controversy since sheriff's deputies said LSU student Madison Brooks was raped and fatally hit by a car after a night drinking there.

There are already plans for another Tigerland bar to take over the space.

Flood insurance is soon getting a huge overhaul, and that is very bad news for many people in Louisiana. Some parts of the state are likely to face enormous price increases, and those increases could vary widely based on flood risk.

To help get a sense of the issue, we created this interactive map to help readers see roughly how the change will affect them.

“You’ve already screwed it up so badly, and by communicating with these people, you’re making it worse.” That's what a judge told a founding partner of a law firm that is in deep trouble over its handling of more than 1,500 lawsuits filed after hurricanes Lara and Delta.

This story explains what the firm is accused of doing, and why the judge is furious.
