On this day in 1977, The Canberra Times reported that the Public Service Board approved first-class travel for pregnant women after a battle with the Administrative and Clerical Officers Association. It came after ACOA (which represented 50,000 public servants) discovered the board was not allowing pregnant women to travel first class to postings abroad, despite a ruling by the then Public Service Arbitrator, Mr Ted Taylor, that women who travelled long distances with children aged under seven, were entitled to first-class travel.
