Researchers created mice with human genetic material for the ACE2 protein, which COVID-19 viruses use to attach to cells. Researchers describe the first observation of a satellite bacteriophage consistently attaching to a helper bacteriophage at its “neck”—where the capsid joins the tail of the virus. Drosophila sechellia, a fly endemic to the Seychelles, is the only fly attracted to a fruit growing on this archipelago of islands in the Indian Ocean. The new study provides measurements accessible in blood samples, which, though not sufficient to serve as a stand-alone diagnostic test, could be useful to help improve treatment. In a first, Japanese scientists and astronauts have successfully grown mouse embryos on the International Space Station in microgravity. The successful results may have big implications for future human reproduction in space. |
