British-Israeli journalist Jonathan Spyer’s U.S. visa was canceled for association with a “terrorist organization.” As a reporter, he has been in contact with various terrorist groups including Hezbollah, Hamas, and ISIS. But the U.S. government deemed unacceptable only his contact with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). Although Spyer eventually got his visa, this incident raises many questions.

Jonathan Spyer is a fellow at the Middle East Forum and a columnist for The Jerusalem Post. Raised in London, He obtained his master’s in Middle East politics from SOAS, and a PhD in from the LSE. Spyer served in the 188th Armored Brigade during the 2006 Lebanon War and lives in Israel.
