Google, Facebook and Twitter are among the most prominent companies looking to reduce pay for employees who work from home in areas with cheaper costs of living, while in the UK, a CIPHR survey suggests nearly 70% of employers want to cut pay for remote workers. "If employers have very clear policies and contractual arrangements in relation to location allowances, then this will be easier to navigate," says Claire Williams of CIPHR.

The Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics reduced its preliminary estimate of US job growth in the 12 months through March by 166,000, according to Reuters. The department said unemployment claims decreased by 29,000 to 348,000 last week for the fourth time in a row, The Los Angeles Times reported. "As life normalizes and the service sector continues to gain momentum (Delta variant permitting), we expect initial jobless claims to remain in a downtrend," said Joshua Shapiro, chief US economist at consulting firm Maria Fiorini Ramirez.
A PwC poll taken in August shows 65% of workers are searching for a different position, up from 35% in May. Higher pay, expanded benefits and greater flexibility are among reasons workers cite for looking for a different job.
Google has endorsed the concept of bolstering employee morale by allowing pets in the workplace, and while some studies have shown that contact with a pet reduces workplace stress, those studies have limitations, and other studies have not reached the same conclusions.
