The 3rd baby Woodrum arrived two weeks ago at 2:56 pm on a sunny Friday afternoon.


But before Daniel went into Daddy Daycare mode to help Britt… 


He wrote a powerful message for some of our private clients — and I wanted to share it here because we know it can help you too:


Do You Trust Your Team Members?

Our recent Mastermind was packed with networking, hangouts, breathwork and tons of awesome presentations. This was by far the best event we've had yet. (Although September will be even better!)


One of the first presentations of the event was Removing Yourself From Your Business.


I shared the 5 biggest obstacles business owners face when removing themselves from their business. 


I've done a lot of presentations over the years, but this one seemed to really resonate with everyone.


When I talked about the "Lack of Trust" business owners face with their employees...


I could see the attendees leaning forward in their seats hanging on every word I was saying.


How many times have you said, "I don't trust [enter team member name] to do that properly?"


I bet more than you can count.


I've also been guilty of that throughout my career.


But here's the thing...what you are really saying is… 


You don't trust yourself to properly lead your team.


You don't trust yourself to give them the right processes to follow.
 

You don't trust yourself to have tough conversations when warranted.

You don't trust yourself to be able to delegate and then hold them accountable.


It's easy to blame everyone else and use the excuse, "I don't trust anyone to do it as good as I would"


Let me give you a personal example.


A couple years ago we transferred admin tasks in my gym business to a new team member who I’ll call "Jen".


Part of her responsibility was to send in a weekly report at the end of each week with certain metrics we wanted to track.


After a couple of months I found myself getting frustrated because the reports weren't sent in on time some weeks, and there were often details missing.


I remember saying to myself, "I don't trust her to complete the weekly report"


It got so bad that I almost took her completely out of the position. 


But one day I had this epiphany that it wasn't that I didn't trust Jen… it's that I didn't trust myself to properly give her the systems or give her constructive and real time feedback to complete the reports as I wanted them.


I ended up doing some self reflection and came with an exercise that has helped me and many of my clients work through their trust issues. 


This exercise allows you to identify WHAT & WHY you don't trust someone. 


And most importantly, it allows you to take ownership and do something about it.


The Trust Factor Exercise


1) List out all of your Team Members you don't trust. 


2) Write out WHAT you don't trust them to do.


3) Write out WHY you don't trust them to do that.


4) Write out how you are at fault for this.


5) What can you do to fix this and gain back/earn the trust?


When I went through this exercise originally, it became obvious that I had not provided Jen with the specific details and instructions on exactly what I was looking for with the weekly report.


In the coming weeks, I took ownership, properly put Jen in a position to succeed by training, and no longer had any trust issues with her.


I promise if you follow this Trust Factor Exercise you will start to gain back trust in your team members and yourself!
