Get Notified When Renee Posts New Art BiographyRenee' Marz Mullis grew up drawing and painting, extremely fortunate to be raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico where the arts are highly valued and celebrated. She studied at New Mexico State University and after a career in public education, pursued art making with a passion. Today, Renee' maintains a studio at the edge of the Organ Mountain-Desert Peaks National Monument in southern New Mexico. She enjoys exhibiting, and her work has garnered many awards in national and international pastel exhibitions including those of the Pastel Society of America, the International Association of Pastel Societies, and the Annual Pastel 100. Originally a watercolorist, Renee' laid down her brush, mesmerized by the pastel stick's strength of color and brilliancy. Both a studio and plein air painter, Renee' paints southwestern landscapes, interiors/exteriors, florals, and still lifes. She most enjoys the multitude of challenges in conveying a strong sense of luminosity and atmosphere in her work. Artist Statement: "Pastels help me attempt to speak the language of light and color. I am particularly drawn to light and color and how both are able to transform the most mundane of objects into the extraordinary-- even the ethereal. The tactile nature of the pastel stick, along with its brilliant color range and light-scattering properties allow me a lifetime of opportunities to explore how light and color speak to the soul."
