Good morning and thanks for joining us. Here's a look at some of our top headlines.
Aid running out: Renters throughout the metro area have been getting financial aid for housing and utility assistance since 2001, but the pandemic-era program is running out of funds. This has housing advocates, tenants and landlords concerned a spike in evictions could follow. Sophie Kasakove has the story.
Keeping score: LEAP scores for 2024 are out, and after years of recovery since the pandemic, Louisiana students' progress has begun to stall in math and science, though scores are up slightly for English. Elyse Carmsino has the details. In the New Orleans metro area, most districts' scores have been flat since the pandemic, though Orleans has seen a slight uptick, Marie Fazio reports.
It's not the heat: People in arid climates hate to hear this, but it really is the humidity. Kasey Bubnash has a look at the role the moisture in the air plays in making Southern summers so intolerable.
We've got plenty more news, entertainment and sports from The Times-Picayune here. Thanks for reading. Chad |
