These are tough times for our health services. The pandemic has left hospital staff exhausted and some have left the profession because of the stress of the last few years. That goes equally for the ambulance services which can be at the sharp end of the public’s wrath when things don't go as smoothly as they should. Recently, we have seen many pictures of ambulances queued up outside hospitals unable to offload their patients because there are no beds available. And because they cannot leave the patient unattended, they cannot then make themselves available for the next emergency which inevitably comes along. Most of us would be sympathetic to that. However, what we are not sympathetic to is the North West Ambulance Service treating one of our MPs - who is there to represent us - with contempt. Rosie Cooper filed a complaint on behalf of a constituent who waited for hours for an ambulance. She has been promised a reply ‘within 40 days.’ Simply not good enough. Until next time, take care, Gillian |
