It's Monday, March 7, and today's headlines include a report on Americans' views on the economic impact of Russia's war on Ukraine, the Biden administration's response to Texas' designation of castration and puberty blockers in children as child abuse, and an interview with actress Jennifer Garner. | | A national survey from Rasmussen Reports has found that 74 percent of Americans believe that the Russian invasion of Ukraine with hurt the American economy, while only 14% say they don't believe it will have a negative impact on the U.S. economy. The report, which surveyed 1,000 American adults last week, also found that Republican respondents (48%) were more likely than Democrats (31%) and those not affiliated with either major party (42%) to say it is "very likely" the invasion will hurt the U.S. economy. | Tell me lies, tell me sweet Twitter lies | | A recent study from MIT has found that lies spread on Twitter much faster than truthful statements, writes Robin Schumacher, who goes on to discuss why false messages are more likely to go viral than the truth. Schumacher points to observations by Dr. Aaron James Wendland who, in a recent article, proposed that people are more concerned about establishing and maintaining a connection with their "tribal group" than they are with fully understanding a matter on social media. When it comes to the spiritual connection to these observations, Schumacher notes, "Until a spiritual transformation occurs in the heart of a person, they won’t care about the truth, but will instead just manage information to support the lies they live in and mock those outside their tribe." | Iowa bans boys who identify as trans from girls' sports | | Iowa has passed a law mandating that any student who wants to participate in girls' sports must be a biological female, becoming the 11th state to do so. “No amount of talent, training or effort can make up for the natural physical advantages males have over females. It’s simply a reality of human biology,” Governor Kim Reynolds said in a statement issued on the day that she signed the legislation, stating, "Forcing females to compete against males is the opposite of inclusivity and it’s absolutely unfair.” Click here for a full list of the U.S. states who prohibit biological males from participating in women's sports. |
