Educating constituents is essential to an effective, efficient, and efficacious oversight process. The GME office at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio has designed and delivered quarterly presentations on topics salient to enhance the clinical learning environment. Correct, complete documentation is the foundation of a sound medical record and compliant reimbursement, but getting that foundation in place can be challenging. While residents are expected to learn how to effectively document their own notes, some GME programs have provided attendings and/or faculty with medical scribes. These are professionals with a medical background and training who accompany a physician and document each encounter. Read more. This workbook includes knowledge application questions grouped by topic areas, listings of commonly used acronyms, and helpful GME resources. Program coordinators can use this workbook to create a self-learning plan, to aid in the creation of a procedural manual for their offices, to identify areas for personal and program improvement, and to prepare for ACGME continuous accreditation through education. Although created for the individual coordinator, this tool can also be purchased and distributed by GME offices as a way to support the education of their program managers and staff.
