Bye snow, cold next. The metro area picked up 2-3 inches of snow today. As the snow is clearing out, a subzero cold snap arrives in Minnesota, with many parts of the state falling to minus 10 to minus 20. With the wind, it will feel like minus 20 to minus 30 in much of Minnesota. Here are some pro-tips on how to stay warm in subzero weather this week.

Fearing retaliation, some immigrants stay away from public aid. Medicaid, food assistance and other federal programs can help keep struggling immigrant families afloat. Many, though, increasingly fear being punished for seeking those benefits, and being labeled a “public charge” -- shorthand for a federal rule that lets immigration officials deny entry or citizenship to immigrants if they’re deemed overly reliant on government benefits.

Female farmers get the inside scoop on ag markets. Buying and selling grain and livestock can be a bit of a mystery, even to some farmers. As more women get into farm management, North Dakota State University aims to give them an edge on when to sell their crops.
