Res Artis warmly invites you to the opening event for Martin Smith's 'circle and settle' exhibition at our Project Space in Collingwood (Australia) on Saturday April 30th from 4.30pm. Exhibition runs until May 22 and is part of the PHOTO 2022 International Festival of Photography. Exhibition hours: Thursday - Saturday, 12 - 5pm. Entry is through Gertrude Glasshouse. Martin Smith’s practice explores how we experience our world, connect to others, and feel through language. This theme stems from the artist’s own difficult experiences with speech and language, having suffered a profound stutter in his youth. This exhibition 'circle and settle' explores the unique way that stuttering effects the construction and application of language. Through the medium of photography, speech and dialogue are represented as physical forces like air, water and earth. Join us on April 30th when the artist will share a few words about his personal experiences with speech and language — All welcome. Gertrude Glasshouse will be hosting a panel discussion, prior to Martin's opening, at 3pm, to coincide with their current exhibition 'Being, Human Being: UFO Photography'. We encourage you to attend both events. This exhibition has been possible thanks to generous support from Res Artis Australian Benefactors Michael Schwarz and David Clouston, PHOTO2022, City of Yarra, Melbourne Gin Company, and the Australian Cultural Fund. Martin is represented by Sophie Gannon Gallery. |

In lieu of our conference How to inhabit instability? to be hosted by IZOLYATSIA in cooperation with Ukrainian Institute, House of Europeand Goethe-Institut Ukraine that was scheduled to take place in Kyiv in late 2022 and is now cancelled due to the war, we have diverted our focus to work with our partners on building a special section of our website to support Ukrainian arts and cultural workers in need. Head to our website to read our statements, expressing solidarity with our Ukrainian partners; to learn about Emergency Residency opportunities for Ukrainian creatives; for Humanitarian Resources; for information on like-minded organizations implementing aid solutions and to learn how you can help. If you have an Emergency Residency or opportunities that can be added to this section of website, please email webeditor@resartis.org |

Image credit:Institut für Alles Mögliche, Germany. Earlier this month Res Artis contributed to a public discussion on 'Creative Capital: building a culture of innovation through creative residencies' through the City of Greater Bendigo'sCreative Conversationseries. Res Artis Communication Officer Josephine Mead was joined by Bala Starr, Director Latrobe Arts Institute; Glyn Roberts, Director Castlemaine State Festival, and Miriam La Rosa, independant curator and research. Together they discussed the way residencies can activate creativity in the local community and connect artists with new experiences and resources. They talked of the shifting nature of the residency sector and drew from their own personal experiences. We believe that our sector thrives on conversation and left the discussion feeling inspired to continue to facilitate opportunities for our Members. Our friends and Nordic representative of Res Artis, Northern AiR from Finland, hosted the TechArt Webinar, 'Hybridize Your Festival & Residence' on April 22. European experts came together to present how the transition to hybrid events has changed the work of festivals, residencies and the cultural field. Our valued Member Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart will be hosting a digital festival from May 10 - 14 titled '»Fragile Solidarity/Fragile Connections«'. Working with numerous artists and experts from the Digital Solitude community, and collaborating with their local partners in Stuttgart, the festival’s thematic orientation is dedicated to various forms of solidarity, connectivity, cohesion, and togetherness within off and online spaces. We are constantly finding inspiration from the enthusiasm of Res Artis Members to connect, share, experiment and create with their networks! |
