Average resident salary rises

According to Medscape’s latest resident salary report, the average resident salary was $56,500, up slightly from $55,400 last year. Residents in critical care are the top earners with an average salary of about $62,000, followed closely by those in cardiology, gastroenterology, and pulmonary medicine with $61,000.

Medical school awards scholarships to delay student enrollment

When more students accepted admission to the University of Wisconsin’s School of Medicine and Public Health this fall than anticipated, the school resorted to paying for scholarships to students willing to defer their enrollment or reorganize their courses.

More new physicians taking advantage of debt forgiveness program

A survey conducted by the Association of American Medical Colleges found that 25% of physicians who graduated medical school in 2014 intend to enroll in the federal government’s Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. This is up from 10.6% in 2014.

Join our book review group

HCPro is seeking enthusiastic graduate medical education experts to join an ad-hoc group interested in contributing to our books or reviewing prepublication drafts of books and training materials.

Our editors will send you periodic emails listing upcoming projects available in need of contributors or  outside review. If you’re interested, just let us know. We’ll send reviewing guidelines and give you an idea of our timeframe. If it works for you, we’ll send the draft chapters as they’re available, and a printed copy of the book when it’s complete. In addition, you will be recognized as a reviewer inside the printed book. We might also ask for your feedback on topics in your area of expertise.

Please have a minimum of five years of experience and be in an educational, supervisory, or leadership role within your organization.
