Resident terminated for anti-Semitic posts

A first-year resident training at the Cleveland Clinic has been fired after multiple anti-Semitic social media posts were discovered. In one tweet, Lara Kollab wrote “ill purposely give all the yahood [Jews] the wrong meds…” She also allegedly called for violence against Jews, trivialized the Holocaust, and spread anti-Semitic conspiracy theories through multiple social media channels (most of which are now deleted).

Supporting second victims

More attention is being paid to second victims, and support options are slowly growing. Leaders, administrators, and safety and risk officers have become more understanding that doctors, nurses, and specialists directly involved in an adverse patient event or traumatic episode are likely to suffer an emotional response causing sleep deprivation, guilt, anxiety, or reduced job satisfaction.

RPA Subscriber Exclsuive: Coordinators: Emphasize your value as a leader to change the perception of your role

During my eight years working in GME, I’ve noticed that many residency coordinators remain in the position for only two to three years even though it takes approximately three years to even learn the job. Why are coordinators leaving so early in their careers? I believe it is because the position of residency coordinator is perceived inaccurately and because coordinators are mistreated. Just as physicians, faculty, and directors of GME are considered leadership positions, so too should the residency coordinator position. Unfortunately, the coordinator position often is mistakenly categorized as clerical or secretarial. I would like to make an argument for why the coordinator is, in fact, a leader.
