Yesterday’s poll left me feeling like I was a Scrooge for waiting so long to listen to Christmas music. Thanks to everyone who participated — everyone had a different favorite song and all of them were lovely choices.
While we’re in the spirit — this weekend I watched “Ghosts of Christmas Always” and it was very cute.

Senate passes Respect for Marriage Act; Utah Sens. Lee, Romney divided in vote
The U.S. Senate voted 61-36 to pass the Respect for Marriage Act Tuesday, which seeks to federally recognize any marriage between two people as long as it’s valid in a U.S. state, codifying the 2015 Supreme Court ruling Obergefell v. Hodges.
What are people saying?
“This is a discouraging development in our country’s storied history of protecting the free exercise of religion. While I’m disappointed that my amendment was not included, I remain committed to preserving the religious liberties enshrined in our Constitution for all Americans.” — Utah Sen. Mike Lee
“While I believe in traditional marriage, Obergefell is and has been the law of the land upon which LGBTQ individuals have relied. This legislation provides certainty to many LGBTQ Americans, and it signals that Congress — and I — esteem and love all of our fellow Americans equally.” — Utah Sen. Mitt Romney
“Our hope is that the Respect for Marriage Act will expand civil rights for LGBT Americans while at the same time protecting principles of religious liberty and diversity which are central to our Constitution.” — Nathan Diament, executive director of the Orthodox Union Advocacy Center
“What a great day. What a great day.” — Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer
The bill now moves to the House, where it is expected to pass.
