Restricted graphics: If you’re a fan of graphic novels and visit St. Tammany Parish libraries, you might soon find that some of your faves are no longer on the shelves. In the latest development of an effort to restrict material that some people find objectionable, the board that runs the public libraries has voted to keep some graphic novels behind the library counter, Sara Pagones reports. Defending deputies: The fatal shooting of a man in a Terrytown store by a Jefferson Parish sheriff’s deputy prompted a lot of social media talk. On Wednesday, Sheriff Joe Lopinto took the extraordinary step of holding a news conference to show snippets of store and police-cam video to defend the actions of his deputies, Chad Calder and Faimon Roberts report. Flying birds: Mayor LaToya Cantrell went viral a couple weeks ago when she flipped off someone on a Krewe of Tucks float. On Wednesday she gave her most extensive explanation to date: Cantrell told our partners WWL-TV that her actions were a response to someone on the float flipping her the bird.
