ANTIQUES, INTERIORS & BOOKS AUCTION 6th & 7th July |
|
| English School, 18th Century, 'Prospect of y ancient & beautiful Town of Shrewsbury' with printed dedication to Richard Newport, Earl of Bradford Sold for £1,300 Last week was very busy here at Halls Fine Art with our two-day Antiques, Interiors and Books Auction on 6th and 7th July. Highlights for this sale included a wonderful engraving of our much-loved town of Shrewsbury which, to our great delight, achieved a £1,300 hammer price. The book department supplied our top lots with a collection of works from the estate of Olwyn Hughes, sister of celebrated poet Ted Hughes, which totalled £5,645. Many of the books which had previously belonged to Ted were annotated or signed by him. Elsewhere in the auction another highlight was an English violoncello (cello), attributed to the Panormo School (Edward Ferdinand Panormo) circa 1830, with bow and a later case which sold for £3,400 after a fierce battle between the room and online bidders. Taxidermy performed well with a Victorian Elephant foot decanter stand selling to a rather excitable first-time phone bidder for £1,000. Carrying out the bid, Specialist Caroline Dennard reported that there was much loud celebration and applause at the fall of the gavel! Needless to say our buyer was delighted! |
