CMS needs to provide more support to physician-led ACOs, report says

Though small physician-lead Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) have shown success in reducing costs while improving quality, a new report from the Duke-Margolis Center for Health Policy suggests that these ACOs need continuing and future support.

Effective March 13, hospitals, health systems, and laboratories may use new CPT code 87635 (infectious agent detection by nucleic acid [DNA or RNA]; severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 [SARS-CoV-2] [COVID-19), amplified probe technique) to report testing for COVID-19. Healthcare professionals may contact third-party payers to determine their guidelines regarding applicability for retroactive billing and reimbursement.
