Tip of the week
When a diagnosis is identified as present on admission (POA), it provides a complication or comorbidity (CC) or major CC as a secondary diagnosis and therefore could result in the assignment of the case to a higher-paying MS-DRG. When identified as not POA, these conditions are considered hospital-acquired conditions and the additional payment is negated.
