Dementia patients twice as likely to develop COVID-19

After adjusting for COVID-19 risk factors, age, sex, and race, people with dementia were twice as likely as other adults to develop COVID-19, according to a report published in Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Among those patients with dementia, Black patients were found to be almost three times as likely as white patients to develop COVID-19.
OIG: BCBS of Michigan overpaid the federal government $14.5 million for certain high-risk diagnoses

Findings from an Office of Inspector General (OIG) audit show that Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) of Michigan submitted claims with high-risk ICD-10-CM codes that did not comply with federal requirements, resulting in at least $14.5 million in overpayments to Medicare Advantage (MA).
