On September 28, the Office of Inspector General (OIG) published a report on the costs to the Medicare program and a beneficiary’s out-of-pocket expenses for recalled or prematurely failed medical devices. Although there were general audits of recalled or failed and replaced devices over a 10-year period (2005-2014), the OIG focused this study on seven cardiac devices to further develop its findings.
