In a very short period of time, the company has jumped from relative obscurity to the #2 market share vendor and now offers a robust premises based solution with Skype for Business (formerly Lync) and burgeoning cloud service within Office 365. Microsoft’s best partner throughout this journey has been Polycom, which is the main supplier of IP phones to Microsoft Skype for Business or Office 365 customers. Read More

DARPA: Show us how to weaponize benign technologies

With that in mind the agency is launching a potentially scary program called “Improv” that looks at what DARPA calls today’s “bustling tech marketplace with an inventor’s eye and imagine how easily purchased, relatively benign technologies might be converted into serious security threats.” The technology scope of Improv is intentionally broad and the program is structured to encourage participation by a wide range of technical specialists, researchers, developers, and skilled hobbyists. Performers may reconfigure, repurpose, program, reprogram, modify, combine, or recombine commercially available technology in any way within the bounds of local, state, and federal laws and regulations, DARPA stated. Defining 'reachability' on the global Internet

We all remember the Verizon Wireless commercials that asked “Can you hear me now?”. While the ad campaign may have been repetitive, Verizon was driving home the point that its network had broad wireless network reachability. While they were effective in winning customers, the message of coverage and signal strength only only told part of the story. Your phone can be charged up, you can have four bars of signal, but maybe the person at the other end has a lousy signal and your call is dropped.
