A love letter from a reader - to rhodium, not to me

Greg Salter is a talented guy. An avid reader of Ghost Mail, he decided to put pen to paper and wrote a cracking piece on how rhodium played a huge role in seeing our economy through the pandemic.

Eskom may be the thorn, but rhodium is the rose. Find out why in this excellent piece>>>

DealMakers is back!

After taking a break for a couple of wee ks, the team at DealMakers is back with their signature summaries of the corporate activity on the market. This includes major unlisted deals, so be sure to read through the summaries to make sure you didn't miss anything this week.

Jobs, hurricanes and a webinar

The dollar is trading firmer despite weekly jobless claims increasing from 209,000 to 219,000. Whilst this would've normally be interpreted as a slowdown in the economy (which is bullish for the dollar), the reason for the increase is attributed to Hurricane Ian causing havoc in Florida. Even a sharp increase in the number of job cuts couldn't stop the dollar, which took the rand back above R17.90.

This is merely a taste of the reaction we could get to US non-farm payroll numbers today.

By now, you are well aware that TreasuryONE is our source is of excellent daily commentary on the markets. The team is back with another webinaront> on Wednesday 12th October at 1pm. You absolutely do not want to miss it, as they will shed light on the macroeconomic chaos that has driven markets this year. Best of all, attendance is free! You just need to register here>>>
