The worth of Formula 1’s drivers is like shares on the stock market, with the majority in a constant state of flux and steered by recent form.

Sergio Perez is a great example, his overheard jokey comment to Christian Horner before taking the steps to the Monaco podium – “maybe I signed my new contract too soon” – meaning he could’ve asked for more money!

While Checo is at the peak of his career right now, someone at the other end of it is Daniel Ricciardo. There are signs that McLaren is beginning to lose faith and the last time he wore an “eff ’em all” message on his crash helmet was 2018, when he left Red Bull for Renault.

But stocks that have fallen can always rise again…
