Rick’s Renderings – Installment #5

By adding 1,150 square feet to the 5th green we have not only increased the overall area for placing the cup but have brought some really dramatic places into the hole.  One result is being able to use the flat area to the left of the existing green, giving us pin spots several yards further left and much closer to the steep drop-off on the left.  For tournament play, there will be a lot of risk/reward involved in trying to go for the flag if it is on the far left edge.

To offset the dangerous left side placements, we have expanded the area of bent grass fairway cut on the right, providing a good bail-out option.  But, even the bail-out has its own risk/reward factor.  If the pin is on the left and you are chipping from the right of the green, any chip hit thin will risk running off the edge and down the side slope!  If you notice the squiggly line of drainage direction on area 3, you will see that the green slope is also to the left.  It may be better just to go ahead and try to get it close on the tee shot.

Adding to the fun pin locations are the ones just behind the front bunker and forward of the rear bunker.  We expanded the green toward both bunkers so a flag can be set within a few yards of each one.  The 5th hole will be able to present a good challenge even when played from 150 yards or less.

Installment #6 – coming soon along with warmer temps and grass covering the greens!
