Everything happening in Toronto real estate this week
JULY 30, 2024
Dear reader,
A buyer’s market has finally taken hold in Muskoka—with some strings, of course. In May, as the sun came out and the waters warmed, the region’s sales spiked 50 per cent from the same time in 2023, with heaps of waterfront listings—particularly those going for north of $3 million—driving the action, thanks to increased supply brought on by June’s capital gains tax hike. But owners won't wallow long. Experts from Royal LePage forecast that prices in Muskoka will stabilize come the fourth quarter. Meaning, there are two good months left to scoop up deals and discounts.
But if you plan on scoring Curb Appeal’s top post this week—a $13.9-million mansion on Sugarbush Bay—you’ll probably have to pay with cash, as can happen with cottage country’s ultra-luxe properties. This place is something else: a 7,300-square-foot behemoth with picture-perfect views from almost every room, a private waterfront and a boathouse big enough for a family of five.
Also in today’s newsletter: a Hamptons-inspired resort currently renting for $180,000 a month. Plus, a house by Leslie and Lawrence with a basement jazz bar. Visit torontolife.com or subscribe to our print edition for all of our real estate coverage and more.
What cabin in Port Carling would be complete without eight bathrooms, four fireplaces, a three-slip boathouse with a massive deck, 130 metres of private waterfront and views worthy of the Group of Seven?
This six-plus-one-bedroom, seven-bathroom home sits on a leafy street in Banbury–Don Mills. It’s got a jazz bar in the basement, two kitchens, Italian marble, custom light installations, a wok station, a wave-like staircase, a trap door and glasswork from the same supplier as Tiffany and Co. It’s within walking distance of Rippleton Park, the Toronto Botanical Garden and the 51 bus. And motorists are a short drive from both York Mills and the DVP.
In the latest issue: dispatches from the canine wars. Plus, inside the making of LSL, the $680-a-head uptown restaurant everyone’s talking about; a night owl’s guide to dining out after midnight; a Q&A with the city’s new WNBA boss; and more.
