Hooray for the Riso Show

The Riso Show is now open and what a JOY it is to be surrounded by such glorious colour! With work from more than 30 UK artists all making work with a Risograph printer, there's so much to see.

A Risograph machine is not much to look at itself (it's basically a photocopier with a cult following), but by making multiple passes of mono coloured layers, changing the coloured ink drum between each pass, the resulting artworks are incredibly beautiful. (Don't worry if you still don't get how it works. There's a beginners guide on our website here.)

And the prints are surprisingly affordable too. Come and see for yourself. We think you'll enjoy it.

Coining it

We've had a re-stock of purses in all sizes from the brilliant Jane Clucas. Each made in vintage fabric from Jane's carefully sourced stash, and each finished with a sassy slogan (some saltier than others!). This is our go-to gift for all the women in our lives - no matter what age.

Every purse is a one-off, so you'll have to come into the gallery to choose yours. But don't dillydally - these never hang about for long.

We've got some brilliant courses coming up here at our classroom on Brighton beach, and we are adding new ones all the time. Book two and save 10% on the second.

In June, acclaimed Argentinian textile artist Adriana Torres will teach the embroidery stitches and techniques required for knot work needlelace, creating wonderfully illustrative raised images with just needle and thread. She'll also teach a variety of techniques that elevate visible mending into a (playful) artform. Check out Needlelace with Knots and Play and Mend for more information and to book your places.

Katie Sollohub returns this with two dates for her popularSketchbooks by the Sea. Spend two days on the beach, filling your sketchbooks with elemental artworks.

And, in April, the Atelier Art Club is back with flexible ways for your to try a variety of different mediums. Book for a single session, a term, or the whole course, and learn and practice new skills alongside our experienced tutors.
