A day without the internet in the world would cost US$43 billion with the US and China almost making up half of the sum together, accumulating US$21 billion, according to data presented by a VPN provider.



While it was crystal clear that the Optus outage was disastrous for the company and its subscribers, it seems that the telco's rivals may have benefited from the shutdown.

MVNO Boost, which resells Telstra's mobile services, claims it has experienced five times its daily business on the day when Optus suffered its catastrophic outage.
